The Chicago International Film Festival is a year-round 501(c)3 non-profit arts and education organization dedicated to fostering better communication

between people of diverse cultures through the art of the moving image.

As the longest running competitive film festival in North America, the Chicago International Film Festival is a celebration of cinema that

includes film premieres, tributes to actors and directors, and signature red carpet events. Internationally renowned for its excellence in programming,

showcasing the best in U.S. and world cinema, the Festival offers audiences opportunities to discover innovative works by first-time filmmakers

alongside films by celebrated masters and to preview the season’s top award contenders with film-makers and special guest in attendance.

In addition to the annual film festival, we produce several film events throughout the year, including our free Summer Screenings

(May-October), CineYouth Festival (May), Education Screenings, and Special Event and Gala Screenings.

F E S T I V A L P R E M I E R E S & G U E S T SThe Chicago International Film Festival has a rich history of discovering ground-breaking directors, having presented the first features of Martin Scorsese, Ava DuVernay, and Alejandro G. Iñarritú, amoung many others. We have also paid tribute to a long list of celebrated auteurs and actors including Guillermo del Toro, Orson Welles, Sophia Loren, Spike Lee, Faye Dunaway, Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Sidney Poitier, Ron Howard, Viola Davis, Bruce Dern, and Kevin Kline, and many more.

All Festival films are Chicago Premieres, many being U.S. or World Premieres.

The Festival is Chicago's must attend event for audiences looking to see the best in independent and international cinema along with the season's most highly anticipated films before they're in theaters. Recent Festival guests include Alfre Woodard, Carey Mulligan, Michael Shannon, Rian Johnson, Jane Fonda, Eddie Redmayne, Alfre Woodard, and Gael García Bernal.
