“In this respect Spielberg recalls Hitchcock, as he does also in his

insistence on the emotional rather than the intellectual power of film and the responsibility of the film

maker to fill the screen with imagery so exciting that it transports the

audience out of their normal lives”

“When he saw the short, Spielberg, “Was jealous to the very marrow of my bones. I was eighteen (actually twenty) years old and had directed fifteen short films by that time, and this little movie was better than all of my little movies combined. No longer were John Ford, Walt Disney, Frank Capra, Frederico Fellini, David Leon, Alfred Hitchcock or Michael Curtiz my role models”

“I think the effect Steven and I have had on the business is to help promote the independent art film.”“That’s the thing the New York critics don’t want to acknowledge. They think the films today are worse than they’ve ever been. Personally, I think they are better than they’ve ever been.” (Jack Matthew’s interview, George Lucas Quote. Kline. 1999: 229).

FIG 28: Peter Jackson FIG 29: Jurassic Park

“Seeing the digital dinosaurs in Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993 made as dramatic an impression on Peter Jackson as his first encounter with the stop-motion monsters created by Willis O’Brien, sixty years earlier, for King Kong”. (Sibley, 2006:257).
