President’s message on the 2012 SPGC Board Elections: It was a hectic December for most of us busy at work. I would like to apologize for the board that we were unable to send out the voting ballots. Since I have not received any write-in candidates, we decided to keep the candidates for the 2012 board. However, we are still one member short for the Director-at-Large position. If anyone would like to volunteer, please let me know. [email protected] or X20488.

2012 SPGC Board: The SPGC board for 2012 will consist of:o President – Winson Lamo VP Tournaments – Evan Nguyeno Asst VP Tournament – Vince Louieo VP Handicaps – Kathy Broteno SCGA Delegate – Dave Pisarskio VP Leagues – Gary O’Bryano Treasurer – Linda Olivero Secretary – Frank Suho Director at Large - Open

2012 Membership Renewal: The membership fee is $75.00 for renewals and $65.00 for new members. League-only members will continue to pay $25.00 before April 6, 2012 and $30.00 after. When completing and sending in your membership form, you must complete and return the new “Release of Liability and Indemnity Agreement – NGRC” and the “NGRC SPSC Member’s Code of Conduct forms. Incomplete packages will be returned to the sender which may hold up your membership renewal. Please note, you must have these forms on file prior to partaking in any club activity. Unfortunately a few bad experiences in other SPSC clubs have resulted in all clubs being required to complete these forms.

Tournament Hosts: The 2012 tournament schedule is attached. If interested in hosting any of the OPEN tournaments, please contact Nguyen at 310-812-4906 or [email protected]. This is a great opportunity for members to “give back” to the club plus as host you’ll receive $50.00 off the tournament fee and have the first tee time!

Tournament Schedule: Teambuilders and Coast Tournaments have been added to the schedule for reference. Please note…Teambuilders and Coast Tournaments will not qualify for TOC points.

USGA Rules: The new USGA rules for 2012 are out and you can get it in PDF format at the following link:http://www.usga.org/rules/2012-Rules-of-Golf/

There are couple interesting new rules that affect us.

One is that you can now rake a bunker before you play from it, as long as you do not improve your stance or lie (good for those of us that may not get out in one shot), see rule 13-4.

Another is a new exception to rule 18-2b "Ball Moving After Address." If you know or are virtually certain that a gust of wind moved your ball after you've addressed it, there is no penalty. Rule 20-7c "Playing from Wrong Place; Stroke Play" has been amended so in most

Page 3: ://spgc.info/TTN/201201TTN.docx · Web viewoffer SCGA members and guests the opportunity to play in a non-competitive, championship- quality setting at some of the region’s finest

cases if you play from the wrong place and have breached another Rule, the penalty is limited to 2 strokes.

Learn the rules so you can use them to your advantage!

Misused Terms/PhrasesMany familiar golf terms do not appear in The Rules of Golf book. The following list includes some of the more common ones.

SCGA Member Outings offer SCGA members and guests the opportunity to play in a non-competitive, championship- quality setting at some of the region’s finest private and public courses, many of which are not often available to most SCGA members. Facilities that host SCGA Member Outings have the opportunity to align themselves with the SCGA brand and open their course to the core golf market in Southern California. Register on line at www.scga.org. Several of our members have played a few of the courses and they were beautiful and the tournaments were well run. If you have the time, it’s worth the money.

Tournament signups: For each tournament the signup dates are announced on the front page and in the tournament schedule of the TTN. The signup date is also posted in the tournament schedule on our website. The signup date, which is always a Monday, is the first day that you can sign up for that particular tournament. You can email the host before sending in your payment so they can put your name on the tournament roster. The tee times are set in the order of the received application and payment or notification. You can then send in your payment and application within the week. Some hosts may not put your name down until they receive your application and payment.

Each tournament has a maximum number of players based on the contract we establish with the golf course one year in advance. We try to accommodate as many players as possible. Signups for a tournament usually will be accepted up until two weeks before the tournament date. But be sure to call the host about openings before sending in your application and payment if you do not sign up within the first two weeks. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the VP of Tournaments.
