    CONLIT 150 STRUCTURAL STEEL FIRE PROTECTION

    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

    DESCRIPTION The Conlit 150 supplied by Wilhams Insulation Far East Sdn Bhd, must have a proven track record of use for a minimum of 5 years. It shall be manufactured from a non combustible mineral fibre and formed into a slab, the outer face being foiled, acting as fire, thermal and acoustic insulation. All joints must be jointed in accordance with the manufacturers installation instructions and conform to the specifications below:- REFERENCE DOCUMENTATION

    FIRE TEST PERFORMANCE The structural steel fire protection system shall comply with all applicable life safety, building, and fire ratings of Thailands Fire Authority and be tested and assessed to the following:-

    CONLIT 150 STRUCTURAL STEEL FIRE PROTECTION TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

    1. The structural steel shall be constructed in accordance with The use of

    structural steel in buildings. Part 2. Metric units. British Standard 449 : Part 2 : 1969 and The Structural use of steelwork in building. Part 8. Code of practice for fire resistant design. British Standard 5950 : Part 8 : 1990.

    2. Structural steel fire protection shall have been tested in accordance with

    British Standard 476 : Part 21 : 1987 or British Standard 476: Part 8 : 1972 and installed at the locations shown on the drawings according to the thickness shall be in accordance with the following table using a critical temperatures of 450C ;-

    3. Where no fire insulation period is stated the minimum acceptable period is

    2 hours when tested to BS 476 Part 21: 1987. 4. The fire protection system shall be mineral wool based with a minimum

    density of 165kg/m3. The outside surface of the fire rated ductwork shall be coated with a aluminium foil that has been tested to BS 476: Part 6 & 7 achieving Class O surface spread of flame.

    5. Mineral wool fire protection material must be certified by The LUL Code of

    Practice for Fire Safety; August 1990 as non toxic.

    6. The mineral wool fire protection material shall have achieved Euro Class A1 when tested by an independent testing authority BS EN 13501: 2002.

    7. All fixings are to be provided by the manufacturer or manufacturers

    representative.

    8. Any materials used for the construction of penetrations shall provide fire ratings equal to or better than the adjacent construction.

    INSTALLATION Conform to the material manufacturers installations and fire ratings accepted under the fire and building codes / laws, coordinating the installation with other works. All surfaces to be covered by fire rated insulation is to be clean, dry and in proper condition to receive the insulation. Install the 2 hour fire rated Conlit150 Structural Steel Fire Protection System in all areas and surface shown on the drawings. The 2 hour fire rated Conlit150 Structural Steel Fire Protection System slabs shall be attached to steel work using either of the following methods:

    1. Conlit150 applied in a single layer, with butt joints glued and nailed or stapled, and Conlit Glue and nailed or stapled to noggings 120mm wide at 1000mm centres, the noggins of Conlit150 formed from the same thickness as the casing board.The length of the screws or nails is at least twice the thickness of the Conlit150. Spiral screws or nails are located approximately 50mm from the top and bottom of the of the noggin, with additional screws at 100mm maximum centres, or nails at 200mm maximum centres.

    2. Conlit150 applied in two layers, with butt joints glued and nailed or stapled,

    and Conlit Glue and nailed or stapled to noggings 120mm wide at 1000mm centres, the noggins of Conlit150 formed from the same thickness as the casing board. The length of the screws or nails is at least twice the thickness of the Conlit150. Spiral screws or nails are located approximately 50mm from the top and bottom of the of the noggin, with additional screws at 100mm maximum centres, or nails at 200mm maximum centres.

    3. Conlit Clips or spot welded steel pins of minimum 2.67mm diameter and

    locking washers. Conlit Glue must be installed at all transverse joints and spiral screws, at longitudinal joints..

    The fire protection material should be fitted securely into position against the steel work without leaving a void and tightly butted to the adjacent Conlit 150 Slabs . Where a vapour barrier is required all exposed Conlit edges and penetrations through the foil must be sealed using foil tape.
