R3.9B Stick. The R3.9B stick gives thelargest working envelope with smallerbuckets.

R2.9B Stick. The R2.9B stick is a versatilefront linkage.

R2.5B Stick. The R2.5B stick providesa good digging envelope with largerbuckets and stability for hammer work.

Mass Excavation Boom. The massexcavation boom maximizes productivity.The M version offers significantlyhigher digging forces and allows useof larger buckets.

M2.4C Stick. The M2.4C stick gives alimited envelope but allows the use oflarge buckets with high digging forces.

Special Application (SA) Reach Boom.The Special Application (SA) reachbooms and sticks are designed forsevere applications. R2.9B SA andR2.5B SA sticks are offered as options.

Protection Bumpers. Caterpillar sideimpact protection (optional) bumpershelp protect machines from damage,reducing repair and service time. Rubberis bonded to high-strength steel platesand bolted to the upper frame.

Buckets. Caterpillar buckets provideincreased service life with reducedrepair costs.

Heavy-Duty Rock (HDR) Buckets.Heavy-Duty Rock (HDR) bucketsperform best when digging fragmentedrock, frozen ground, caliche and highlyabrasive materials. Additional, thickerwear plates extend beyond side plates forcorner and rear dent protection. Sidebarprotectors decrease sidebar wear.

Heavy-Duty Rock Ripping (RR) Buckets.These buckets (C family only) dig hardrock and work in areas where materialis virgin or poorly prepared. Steppedtooth design allows one or two tippenetration for higher break-out forcesand keeps the trench floor flat. Thickerside wear plates, cutting edges andlarger Ground Engaging Tools (GET)mean additional wear life.

General Purpose (GP) Buckets. GeneralPurpose (GP) buckets are best for diggingin soft to hard ground with low tomoderate abrasive materials.

Ditch Cleaning (DC) Buckets. These arewide shallow buckets for bank forming,ditch cleaning and finishing.

Heavy-Duty (HD) Buckets. Heavy-Duty(HD) buckets for digging in moderateto hard abrasive materials feature largeGround Engaging Tools (GET), thickcutting edges and thick bottom and sidewear plates to improve performance indemanding conditions.

Tool Control System. The optional ToolControl System maximizes work toolproductivity by configuring hydraulicflow, pressure, and operator controlsto match a specific work tool. Systemversatility enables a wide range of toolsto be used. Up to five different toolsettings may be pre-programmed andselected from the cab. Factory installedhammer and thumb circuits are alsoavailable as attachments.

Heavy Duty Power (HDP) Buckets.Designed to improve breakout forceand machine cycle times, the HeavyDuty Power (HDP) Bucket complimentsthe General Purpose, Heavy Duty, andHeavy Duty Rock bucket lines.

Quick Couplers. The Pin Grabber Plusand the Dedicated Hydraulic QuickCouplers are available as field installedoptions. These attachments greatlyenhance machine versatility by enablingthe rapid changeover of a wide range ofwork tools in the field.

Redesigned Layout. Redesigned cablayout emphasizes simplicity and easeof use. Right-hand wall and consoleprovide easy access to all switches,dials and controls.

Travel Controls. A large rubber-coveredfootrest at the side of the travel pedalsallows the foot to easily grip the pedal.The travel lever stroke and force havebeen enhanced to improve the 320C’sfine controllability, making the machineeasier to operate.

Seat. New, two-tone seat offers softand firm cushions for operator comfort.Reclining knob is located at the rightside of the seat for easy adjustment.

Console. Redesigned consolesfor simplicity and functionality.Both consoles have attachedadjustable armrests.

Automatic Climate Control. Fullyautomatic climate control adjuststemperature and flow and determineswhich air outlet is best in each situation.

Upper Cab Door Window. The uppercab door window slides open, providingextra ventilation and allowingcommunication with people outside.

Skylight. A large polycarbonate skylightdelivers excellent natural lighting andgood ventilation. Standard slidingsunshade protects from direct sunlight.

Automatic Boom and Swing PriorityFunction. For simpler operation, workmode and power mode switches havebeen eliminated. Instead, the automaticboom and swing priority functionselects the best mode, based onjoystick movement.

Monitor. New, compact monitorenhances viewing while displaying avariety of easy to read and understandlanguage-based information.

Extended Service Interval. 320C serviceand maintenance intervals have beenextended to reduce machine servicetime and increase machine availability.

Radiator Compartment. The left rearservice door allows access to the engineradiator and hydraulic oil cooler, whichare side by side, and the high performancecompact air-to-air aftercooler (ATAAC).Ample space between the ATAAC andthe radiator/cooler is provided to allowaccess for cleaning.

Air Filter Compartment. The air filterfeatures a double-element constructionfor superior cleaning efficiency. Whenthe air cleaner plugs, a warning isdisplayed on the monitor screen insidethe cab.

Ground Level Service. The design andlayout of the 320C was made with theservice technician in mind. Many servicelocations are easily accessible at groundlevel allowing critical maintenance toget done quickly and efficiently.

Swing-Out Condenser. The airconditioner condenser swings outhorizontally for cleaning access.

Pump Compartment. A service dooron the right side of the upper structureallows ground-level access to the pumpand pilot filter.

Capsule Filter. The hydraulic returnfilter, a capsule filter, is situated outsidethe hydraulic tank. This filter preventscontaminants from entering the systemwhen hydraulic oil is changed andkeeps the operation clean.

Diagnostics and Monitoring. The 320Cis equipped with S•O•SSM sampling portsand hydraulic test ports for the hydraulicsystem, engine oil and for coolant.A test connection for the Cat ElectronicTechnician (Cat ET) is located behindthe cab.

Handrails and Steps. Larger handrailsand steps assist operator in climbing onand off machine.

Anti-Skid “Punched Star” Plate. Anti-skid punched-star plate covers top ofstorage box and upper structure toprevent slipping during maintenance.The plate can be removed for cleaning.

Grease Lubricated Track. Greaselubricated seals protect the track linkand deliver long track link pin andbushing inner wear life.
