Global LocationsENQUESTDon Development Project UKCS

SPD has provided Project Management services to the Don and West Don fields UKCS since 2008. The team successfully addressed major drilling challenges including drilling complex well trajectories with new multi-discipline teams and service providers working together for the first time. Through a relentless focus on continuous improvement the team are now delivering best-in-class performance for drilling and completing subsea development wells in the Northern North Sea.

DUBAI PETROLEUMManagement of all Offshore Drilling Operations

SPD was responsible for the operational management for four drilling units and the maintenance of over 600 wells. The range of operational activity included development, exploration, UBD, HWU, HPHT design, CO2 EOR design and coiled tubing drilling resulting in over 50 wells delivered over a three-year period with significant performance improvement over the previous incumbent operator.

ONSHORE DRILLINGRemote Land Drilling

SPD has extensive project management experience in many remote and challenging onshore locations such as Armenia, Congo, Denmark, Georgia, Kurdistan, PNG, Ukraine and Yemen. Many of these projects involved extensive civil works, building of access roads and rig pads in terrains ranging from tropical jungle to mountainous desert environments.

DEEPWATER REMOTE DRILLINGYemen and Mozambique

SPD has proven expertise in managing challenging projects with significant long supply chain requirements. The projects for Oil Search (Yemen) and Sasol (Mozambique) involved SPD setting fully functioning in-country supply bases in countries that had no pre-existing offshore support capability. SPD worked closely with national personnel to ensure that safety and environmental standards were maintained to industry accepted standards. SPD also put in place extensive contingency plans based on highly detailed Risk Assessments to mitigate operational and HSE risk. Both projects were successfully executed, achieving all well objectives.

UKCS MULTI-CLIENT PROGRAMMEWell Construction in UKCS

SPD successfully completed a four well £73 million programme in the UKCS in 2010. The sequence consisted of an exploration well, sidetrack and well test in Block 211/8c for Valiant Petroleum plc, two exploration wells for Wintershall E&P Limited in Blocks 20/02b and 21/27b and an appraisal well for Nautical Petroleum plc in Block 9/02b to drill and test the Kraken discovery which included a planned geological sidetrack. SPD completed the four wells 34 days ahead of schedule, resulting in total cost savings of £10.5 million to our customers with an exceptionally low level of Non Productive Time (NPT) which averaged 8.75%.

HESS GDCUBD Study

SPD carried out a feasibility study for HESS as part of an integrated team considering various development and intervention opportunities including the implementation of under-balanced drilling techniques for the South Arne offshore development. This encompassed a detailed multi-disciplinary review including the use of UBD technical specialists.

OMV (NEW ZEALAND)Feasibility Study for Hydraulic Workover Unit

SPD performed a feasibility study to determine the cost effectiveness of using a HWU compared to a jack-up to drill side-tracks from a small offshore platform. The study involved platform and equipment inspections & specification, software simulations and logistics planning.

CNRHP/HT DEEP BANFF

SPD provided a full well planning and design service to CNR for this highly challenging UKCS exploration well. The scope included casing design, well bore stability and pore pressure review, drilling fluid design & selection and shallow hazards review. SPD also provided operational support throughout the well execution phase.

ABU DHABI NATIONAL OIL COMPANYTechnical Insurance Audit

The SPD well engineering team performed a review of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) drilling operations across all their operating companies. The wells which represented the highest risk of catastrophic event were identified. SPD audited the planning and operations management of these wells and delivered a report which identified key areas of exposure as well as recommended actions to mitigate and manage risk. This information was utilized by ADNOC in assessing their group insurance requirements.
