“There are huge challenges that we face
globally and in our country. Chemistry can be
a big enabler for addressing some of these
challenges. In order to come up with the
solutions, there is a need to co-create as
some of the challenges cannot be addressed
by one individual or one company or one institution. "
“I am very excited to see Speciality Chemical
forum evolving in India. There are not many
special ity chemicals forums currently
operating in the country and this one is going
to bring in a number of key players in the
entire value chain including the producers,
end users the people who are shaping up the future with
respect to Speciality Chemicals together..."

“From a decade ago, the scenario has changed both in terms of demand pattern and chemical output in India. As a result, value added specialty chemicals have transitioned from being niche segment to growth drivers of the industry. While in the last few years, industrial growth has not been sailing
smoothly - as we would have liked, but things are denitely upbeat and improving. More importantly, specialty chemical as a segment is playing pivotal role in the growth."

“The market is changing and consumer awareness is on the rise, regulatory regime is maturing, and manufacturing innovation, varying prices and availability of raw materials, meanwhile are a p p l y i n g f u r t h e r p r e s s u r e o n competitive situation. Companies must replace the traditional strategies for
competitive advantage to realise desired growth. I believe, as the Indian economy opens up and becomes crowded with Indian and international companies the market innovation for India in India becomes a key differentiator."

WORLD EXPO 2017
“Al l industr ies require specia l ty chemicals but end users are more interested in the application than the chemicals. We need to work with specialty chemical providers who understand that this class of chemicals are performance chemicals. We only need to distinguish between good
chemicals and bad chemicals in a bid to reduce the chemo phobia in the minds of the end user. We need to focus on making good chemicals through the adoption of Green technology and lead better, healthier lives."
Mr Nadir B Godrej*Managing Director, Godrej Industries Ltd
“The only way to ensure 'Make in India' achieves its goal is if you can integrate that with the ability to innovate, in India and for India. The challenge in India today is that for specialty chemicals in India, there is not enough critical mass. The reason why we do not have any critical mass is that we have not been
able to develop enough applications that touch millions of people that are at the bottom of the pyramid."
Mr Sudhir Shenoy*CEO, Dow India - Innovating in India
“As a result of interacting with other companies in the last three years, I have made an interesting observation that we have hundred per cent FDI in chemicals. But somehow it has not picked up to the extent all of us and the government had expected. There are still a lot of challenges and though India is
a promising market, there are also a lot of difculties and it is complicated. The government is still taking steps to come up with ways and means to simplify this process."
Mr Frank Lelek *President, Evonik India
* Quoted text from Specialty Chemicals World Expo 2015
"In the meetings regarding the 'Make in India' campaign held at Delhi in December, out of the pointers listed for chemical industry under the short term initiatives, one was related to issuing feedstock mandate to all anchor units. One of the challenges in the cluster space is that if you have high value
products then you need to verify if the freight component signicantly impacts the setup location and proceed accordingly."
“We welcome the 'Make in India' initiative to encourage local production. What we see is encouraging and the optimism you can sense is an important success factor in itself. While India has launched major steps to leverage its potential, the global chemical industry is facing disruptive changes that will impact
the evolution in this country."

Dr Arup Basu*President – New Businesses and Innovation Centre, Tata Chemicals Ltd
