President Michele Turner February 2018
Political Action Group Or What is PAC
As the new president of SHRW, I want members to know what the PAC is and what is the purpose of it.
The mission of the Republican Women of Southern Nevada Political Action Committee is to elect Republicans in key state and local races through the collective talents and resources of its member clubs and by raising campaign funds
The purpose of PAC is to provide the opportunity for clubs interested in supporting those Republican candidates in Nevada elections. To further this purpose, the PAC is empowered to solicit, directly or indirectly, and accept, voluntary club, personal, corporate or PAC contributions, and to make expenditures through the PAC Board in connection with the election of Republicans to any State or Local office. The PAC and the PAC Board shall be independent of and from any campaign committee, candidate or elected official.
Each Southern Nevada Federation Republican Women’s Club that meets the minimum donation threshold will be entitled to appoint one voting member of the PAC Board. The PAC Board shall consist of any club with 50 or more members that donates $500 annually or any club that with less than 49 members donates $250 annually. All PAC Board members shall maintain equal voting rights.
The officers of the PAC shall be: Chairwoman, Treasurer, and Secretary. These are elected for two year term by PAC members who represent the NvFRW Southern Clubs.
I have had many asking about PAC. I hope this will help you support our candidates
through our club. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

February 27 Guest Speakers Rana Goodman
Senior advocate, SHRW Legislative Chair & political editor of the Vegas Voice & Keith Pickard Candidate for Nevada State Senate
And current Nevada Assemblyman
Rana Goodman
It began with one law that made no sense to Rana Goodman in 2013 and has since, as she delved further into the problems involved with guardianship of seniors, became almost an obsession.
By relentlessly lobbying legislators and requiting her readers to sign petitions, she was able to assist in changing five guardianship laws since that time. Private guardians now must be licensed and pay dearly for that privilege. Nevada residents may have a guardian of their choice, regardless of where they live and as of January 1, 2018 that desire can be registered in the Nevada secretary of state’s lock box system just as your living will can be. Rana will tell us what is next because she says, “I’m not done yet, not by a long shot, I get calls every day and have realized there are so many areas where seniors need help. We have come up with ways to do that and be available to those who wish to use us”.
As many of you know, this past legislative session Senator Becky Harris sponsored a bill Rana lobbied for over the last few years to enable seniors to choose their own guardian should the need arise. Below is the link to the form if you wish to file for your guardian. This link will take you right to the Secretary of State site and that form.

Keith Pickard Keith is the frontrunning Republican candidate for Nevada Senate District 20 and current Assemblyman representing Assembly District 22 here in Henderson. Keith is a tireless conservative legislator who has a record of getting things done despite being in the minority. Keith led the Freshman Republicans in the number of personal bills that were signed into law. Keith worked on many of the Guardianship bills with Senator Becky Harris to protect our most vulnerable citizens. Keith is a resident in Anthem, and a Henderson attorney and former contractor and developer. Keith and his wife, Margaret, have seven children, five of whom are in college.

My Point of View
By Rana Goodman
Did You Know By Sydney Ingram
I am not very different to many people when it comes to
lawyers, and I think that is why I have become so fond
of one of our members, who also happens to be a
lawyer. I follow her on FaceBook and she is amazingly
funny, and oh so human! I also know that she and her
husband, who practices as her partner have treated
several clients, who have reported back to me, with
amazing kindness.
And then we have other lawyers, and that is what I want
to give you all a “heads up” about.. I have been shown
some trust documents written by an attorney that on
first glance look really good until one gets to the page
showing the trustee. That page reflects the name of the
attorney, not the person designated by the client. In
addition the fee charged for the trust was quite
exorbitant.
To add insult to injury, when these clients balked at the
insertion of his name as trustee and refused payment
unless a correction was made, threats began to fly of
placing liens on their home and worse. I tell you this so
that you will, if you have not already, read your trust
papers very carefully. Should you find yourself in the
position of a faulty document, please go to another
attorney and have it corrected at once. Don’t be
intimidated by brash bullies.
Speaking of lawyers, kudos to republican attorney,
Senator Becky Harris, ( who was immensely helpful in
getting our nominated guardianship bill passed) she
was just appointed FIRST woman EVER to head the
Nevada gaming commission. Now she must leave the
senate, become an independent, BUT we have
another woman in a powerful spot in Nevada’s “man’s
world”…. Way to go senator.
Very quickly I have to tell you about the gift I received
from my grandsons, a new “door bell called “RING.” It
has a camera inside and when someone comes within
range it notifies your cell phone. You touch the icon and
a picture appears of who is at your door. I found it to be
a wonderful addition to my security system. Check it
This month’s article is about a very interesting and unique piece of Las Vegas history—or as some would say—‘Only in Las Vegas.’
The Guardian Angel Cathedral is visited by residents and tourists from all over the world and of all beliefs if only to feel the peace and tranquility it radiates.
….Interesting: The Cathedral was built in 1961 near the Desert Inn on land donated by Jewish ca-sino owner Morris Dalitz so that his casino workers would have a convenient place to worship. Dalitz’s history is another of those ‘Only in Las Vegas’ ta-les. Dalitz’s full name is Morris Barney Dalitz also known as “Mr. Las Vegas” or “Moe” for his efforts to shape the city into a modern metropolis.
A transplant from Detroit, Moe was a legendary bootlegger, racketeer and an early investor in the Las Vegas gaming industry. After it was revealed in a 1950s Senate hearing that Dalitz was a top man in various crime syndicates, he decided to improve his public image and became an active philanthropist. Using his own money along with pension funds, he underwrote the construction of the Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas Country Club and made multiple contributions to the Public Library System.
….Interesting: The Cathedral was designed by renowned Las Angeles architect Paul Williams to be a beautiful and peaceful place amongst the hustle and bustle of the strip.
….Interesting: The stained glass windows were designed by international artists Isabel and Edith Piczek who had escaped from communist Hungary and worked on three continents and seven countries, reaching their peak with the Cathedral windows. These stained glass windows are made up of Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, and Spades. ‘Only in Las Vegas’
….Interesting: The lighting by Michael Garris was specifically designed to create a sense of peace and contemplation.
….The next time you’re on the strip stop in for a visit. You’ll meet locals and visitors from around the world and feel at peace.
