HISTORYCal Poly Pomona opened September 1938 and has grown to be a

prominent university with 24,000 students from all parts of the

world. Breakfast cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg (yes, the man who

invented the corn flake cereal) donated 813 acres of land to the

state of California in 1949 for the purpose of breeding Arabian

Horses and promoting higher education. The campus continues to

honor W.K. Kellogg’s belief that “education offers the greatest

opportunity for really improving one generation over another.”

Today, the campus covers 1,438 acres and is the second largest in

area among the California State University’s 23 campuses. About

2,700 faculty and staff support the education of 24,000 students.

ENGAGED FACULTYDon’t expect your Cal Poly Pomona instructors to be “cloistered

academics.” We choose our faculty based on their success and

experience in the real world, as well as their ability to teach and

communicate. Their strong connection to the professional

world maintains the quality and relevancy of their teaching and

gives students a direct link to rewarding internships and career

opportunities. Their love of teaching shows in the personal

engagement they offer their students and their commitment to

provide every student with a quality education.

“I have learned to think clearly and express myself briefly and precisely and I have become more confident. Cal Poly Pomona not only prepared me for my career, it prepared me for life outside of my career.”

- Xuanni Pu (China), Hospitality Management

“The small class size is great as students get one-on-one feedback from the professors. This is one of the vital reasons Cal Poly Pomona is known to produce high quality graduates.”

- Beatrice Michael (Dubai), Food Science & Technology

“The sense of community here makes it different. The small classrooms and the interactions with each professor make the learning process so personal.”

- Abed Zarruq (Brazil), Civil Engineering

“Cal Poly Pomona has given me so many opportunities. I am a tutor, a peer advisor (for my major) and a student assistant. Cal Poly Pomona builds up my resume, both educationally and professionally.”

- Phuong Nguyen (Vietnam), Accounting

UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONSCal Poly Pomona offers a rich mix of academic disciplines that,

together, prepare our graduates to contribute to our global world.

Our learn-by-doing philosophy embraces the teaching of theory

through application, allowing both undergraduate and graduate

students to apply their knowledge with hands-on projects, faculty

led research and valuable internships and service learning programs.

This focus on actions and solutions turns our students into skilled

workers, integrative problem solvers and well-balanced leaders.
