CONTENTS2017 was an incredible year for Southampton Airport in many ways; nearly 2.1 million passengers travelled through the airport, new airlines commenced flying from the Airport including easyJet to Geneva and we continued to build on our strong relationships with our charity partner – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

The quieter winter period has also enabled us to make further improvements to the customer experience including further improvements to the security processing area, an enlarged WH Smith unit in the departures lounge with an increase in the range of products available, and following feedback, new electric car charging points in the short stay car park and priority parking. As we step into spring there will also be a complete refurbishment of the priority lounge to provide customers with an enhanced level of service and comfort.Looking forward into 2018 please don’t forget that many of the winter ski flights will operate over the Easter holidays until mid April this year. Looking further ahead to the summer holidays TUI will be operating a new service to Menorca commencing in May, whilst our first ever services to Skiathos in Greece will commence in July operated by a new airline, Lolo.Southampton Airport continues to offer you an ever increasing set of new destinations and choice. So for the latest news and options please visit our website

easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, has launched its first ever flight from Southampton to Geneva. The inaugural flight to the Swiss ski destination took off in

December with Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards watching on. The

iconic British skier, who charmed spectators at the 1988 winter

Olympics by making up for what he lacked in talent with a string

of performances which captured the hearts of millions, chatted

with passengers and posed for photos with fellow skiers before

the flight.

It’s the first time easyJet has ever operated from the South Coast

airport and aims to provide passengers from across the region

with additional options for winter ski holidays or for connecting

through Geneva.

Flights from Southampton to Geneva operate three times a week throughout the winter on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and are available to book at easyJet.com

This summer, Flybe franchise partner, Eastern Airways, is reintroducing flights from Southampton Airport to Rodez in the south of France.

Following a successful programme in 2017, the UK regional airline

will be providing up to three flights a week for summer 2018 starting from 4th June. Flights take 85 minutes and will depart

Southampton at 10.15am on Fridays and 2.55pm on Mondays

and Wednesdays. Services leave Rodez at 11.15am on Fridays and

11.40am on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Southampton Airport raised £24,631.07 for Charity of the Year in 2017

The teams across the airport have all taken part in an amazing range of fundraising activities over the past year including the Runway run, sponsored ballroom dancing, face painting, a giant game of operation and our personal favourite - Christmas jumper day!Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance will be using the funds

raised in partnership with Southampton Airport to continue the

important, life saving work that they do every day.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance brings an advanced

critical care team to people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

when they need it most. Available both day and night, 365 days a

year, the Air Ambulance critical care team

are called out many times a day to attend

Are you interested to know what happens behind the scenes of your favourite airport? We asked Phil Cavalier – Maintenance Delivery Manager, to tell us more...

1. What does your day job involve? From managing my team, to problem solving, to making difficult decisions, no two days are the same in the engineering department.

2. What is your favourite part of what you do? Problem solving and fixing; we respond and react quickly to business threatening faults and mostly our passengers would never know we had been there. This airport wins awards based on passengers’ views and if they have had an amazing experience, then we were doing our jobs properly.

3. What training did you have to go through before you could do this job? Well I have 2 degrees in engineering plus a whole host of C&G and NVQ qualifications covering all aspects of engineering and IT. I have been a building services engineer for 25 years and 10 of those were as an engineer for Southampton Airport.

4. What made you decide to want to work in aviation/at the airport? My early career was spent either abroad or working in London and after 10 years I wanted to get a job closer to home but I also wanted a job that used all my skills and talents.

5. What do you love about working at Southampton Airport? Well as I said above using all my skills, but now it’s that we do something different every day and that makes for an interesting role and an interesting career. I have very low turnover of staff too because all my team think the same way.

6. What is your favourite destination from Southampton Airport? Mallorca, as many times a year as possible!

7. Who is the most famous person you’ve met at work? I’m going to have to say Dave Lees, he’s been on TV a few times and the most famous person I’ve met.

8. If you weren’t working at the airport what would you do? Applying my skills to the advantage of another business.

9. What is your favourite aircraft? The historic Lancaster Bomber which we see quite regularly at Southampton Airport, or the A380 passenger plane as this is an engineering masterpiece .

10. What is your favourite thing to do outside of work? Socialise with friends and family, I like to entertain as much as

possible and visit our favourite pubs and restaurants.

10 YEARS SERVICECongratulations to Gemma Young on 10 years’ service at

Southampton Airport. She joined the company on Halloween

2007 as Customer Service Team Leader then later became

Commercial Executive for Retail and Property before moving

into her current role as Property Manager. Thanks for all the hard work Gemma!

MAXINE MCKEOWN (PRIORITY LOUNGE)Maxine helped a very distraught passenger who had dementia

and had missed his flight. He had been rebooked on the

next flight but had several hours to wait and was very upset

and confused. Not only did she make sure he had food

and drink, she sat with him for a long period of time and

made contact with his family to arrange safe travel home.

Well Done Maxine!

GERALD PRAGNEL (APCOA)When a couple with a three month old baby arrived at the

airport at 1am for their early flight they were very upset to find

that the airport did not open until later that morning. Gerald

not only provided them with somewhere warm and dry to

wait but also made them hot drinks and snacks to see them

through the night. The couple wrote in to tell us “We do not know what we would have done if it wasn’t for Gerald’s help and kind actions. Thank you so much Gerald for all your help!” Gerald, you really are a legend!

With the recent boosts of snowfall across Europe’s top skiing destinations, the snow conditions for the season have been very impressive. Luckily there’s still time to make the most of them and hit the slopes with a last minute ski getaway!

Last chance to hit the slopes

HEAD TO GENEVA WITH EASYJETThe sleek, slick and cosmopolitan Swiss capital of Geneva is a

great gateway to the Swiss ski resorts along with many resorts in

the French Alps. Offering plenty of variety from quiet, smaller,

undiscovered gems of the Alps to large bustling ski resorts

including the internationally known Chamonix, Les Gets and

Flaine, all overlooked by Mont Blanc – the highest mountain in

Western Europe.

As you Breeze through Southampton Airport you can enjoy a

flight to Geneva in just over two hours, making it perfect for a

last minute ski weekend or longer stay. The sheer number of ski resorts near the airport means you can be on the slopes within a few hours of leaving your easyJet flight from Southampton.

The mountains offer a good selection of restaurants, bars and

cafés. So once you’ve reached the summit, cosy up on a terrace

or balcony and watch the alpine life go by with a hot chocolate (or

something stronger) before flying down the slopes yourself. If you

fancy treating your legs to a rest, travel across the Switzerland-

France border and ride a cable car to the summit of Aiguille du

Midi for an incredible Alpine panorama — the views will take your

breath.

CHAMBERY & THE FRENCH ALPSAn ideal gateway to the mountains is Chambery, a beautiful town

in the Rhone-Alpes region of France in a valley with an almost 360

degree view of the French Alps. Peaceful & pretty, with good food

& wine on offer along with a generously warm welcome, Chambery

is an exciting destination in its own right.

You’ll find the charming villages of Grenoble, Albertville, La Clusaz,

Courchevel, Alpe d’Huez, Chamonix and Val d’Isère with hundreds
