Kilt Orders – Must be made to the School by Monday 15th December Sample sizes are as follows: 67cm, 77cm, 87cm and 97cm. It is advisable to try on one of the sample kilts in order
to get the sizing accurate. The student will then be given an order form. Please note that smaller or larger sizes can
be ordered to suit – Please measure accurately.
Payment must be with order - Cheques are to be made out to Bromleywear Clothing Ltd.
Please phone and make an appointment with Mrs Wright before December 15th
Mrs Wright is available on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons (during term time) from 3pm – 3.45pm to try on
samples of kilts and other items of uniform held at SOHS.
1st XI Cricket The 1st XI played its final game of the year last Saturday and what a thriller it proved to be. Batting first in bleak conditions, our top order struggled to get going as it has in all of our other matches. The runs weren't coming thick and fast and wickets fell at regular intervals. Fortunately, our tail - predominantly Year 9s - wagged a little and we were able to make it to a low, but defendable total of 105 all out. The team knew that it would need to bowl field well to preserve its unbeaten record. While wickets were hard to come by, our bowlers kept the opposition's run rate in check and they had only notched up 40-odd runs at the halfway stage - but with many wickets still in hand. While the run-scoring picked up, the wickets started to fall at regular intervals and the opposition found itself needing five runs to win with one wicket in hand. Cometh the hour, cometh the man, Jesse Maher then stepped up to the plate. After having a confident shout for caught behind turned down by yours truly, Maher then sent a yorker crashing into the stumps, which sent his teammates into raptures. While winning the game was very satisfying, the most pleasing aspect for me was witnessing the level of respect that the boys have for the game. Without any prompting from me, the boys marked the passing of Phil Hughes by observing a moment's silence before the match and aligning their bats along the fence - as has been done in other parts of the cricketing world. It is comforting to know that we have young people coming through who are able to look beyond their bubble and show concern for the world around them. Elliott Carroll TIC Cricket

2015 Gateway Programme
Application forms are now available for Year 12 and 13 students who wish to be considered for the 2015 Gateway
programme. This programme provides students with structured workplace learning which complements the students
school-based learning.
Criteria for selection:-
Motivated to learn in the workplace
Able to manage individualized learning and assessment
Able to display a strong interest in a particular industry or career direction
Capable of undertaking a structured work placement, and achieving credits in the workplace
Reliable, with a good attendance record
Work ready
Forms can be obtained from the school office or email [email protected]

PTA members will be available at school on Thursday the 11th of December from 3 - 5pm to collect any items of uniform that people are wanting to sell in the 2nd hand uniform sale in January. Please fill out the form and attach it to your items of clothing.
For comparison here are the prices for new uniform: Kilts ........................................... $200 Summer Skirts ........................... $75 Junior Shirts .............................. $40 Shorts, Ties etc are purchased at local shops not at the school.

Rugby 7’s Nationals The Girls Rugby 7s team went to the Nationals in Auckland held 29th - 30th November. The Girls represented South Otago High School with fine spirit and played as hard as they could. We did not make the top eight of the competition but making nationals was a great achievement for the girls involved and the experience the girls got was invaluable. Bring on 2015. I would like to thanks the parents who came up to the Tournament and supported the team, coach Tony Pringle and the families of the girls. Balclutha Rotary Club Scholarship The Balclutha Rotary Club would like to announce that they have a $1000 scholarship available to an ex-SOHS pupil to use in their first year at a tertiary institution in 2015. Applications close 31st January 2015. More infor-mation will be in The Clutha Leader over the next two weeks.
