The carnival was a great success due to the students’ positive attitudes and excellent sportsmanship. The students who are placed in the top 6 will now compete in the Clarence District Carnival on 5th May, Term 2. Students who have received notes please return these as soon as possible. Mr Newman, Mrs Pope and Mr Jones will be attending the District Carnival. Congratulations to our Cross Country winners: 8/9 Year Girls: Georgia Shorrock, 8/9 Year Boys: Callum Dalton, 10 Year Girls: Tallara Taylor, 10 Year Boys: Jacob Vickers, 11 Year Girls: Charlie Birkett, 11 Year Boys: Mason Slis, 12/13 Year Girls: Emma Rogers, 12/13 Year Boys: Lochlan McMullan. Congratulations Andrea Thomson who competed yesterday in Sydney at the State Swimming Carnival. We are all very proud of Andrea’s achievements. Our school will again be involved in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge in Term 2 which will run for 10 weeks. Congratulations to our boys’ Rugby League team who played Westlawn on Monday in the PSSA knockout competition. The boys played well but unfortunately went down 20-8. Special mention for a great game goes to Mason Slis, Isaac Barker and Jack Knight. Thanks to Mr Duroux for coaching our team. Yesterday we held a morning tea to farewell Mrs Trish Wicks. Trish has worked for the Department of Education for 22 years and the majority of that time has been at South Grafton Public School as an SLSO (teacher’s aide). We are extremely sad to see Trish retire as she has worked tirelessly to support staff and students in her time at SGPS and always did many extras behind the scenes! She will be greatly missed but we wish her wonderful health & happiness in her retirement. The Grafton Show is on in the holidays - 15th and 16th April. We have entered 65 pieces of artwork in the display in the barn so it will be well worth a look. Anzac Day this year falls in the school holidays, Monday 25 April. South Grafton Public School is always very well represented at this ceremony and we are hoping that again this year we have a large number of students attend. The South Grafton March commences at 10.45am from the New School of Arts. We will assemble from 10.15am in Spring Street. Students are to wear full school uniform, including school hat. Not sports uniform. The service commences at the Cenotaph at 11:00 (and is expected to conclude at approximately 11:45 am.) Yesterday our Year 6 students participated in the STELLAR Leadership Program held at our school. This activity was a great success and our students learnt about expanding their leadership abilities, putting leadership into action and building a leadership journey. Our thanks to Mr Zacek for organising this program for our students. Thank you to all our families who were able to attend this week’s parent teacher interviews. I hope you found them valuable, please contact your teacher or the school if you require further follow up. Today students in K-2 attended the Responsible Pet Program which reinforces taking care of pets and safety strategies when dealing with animals. Thank you to our families who have supported the Amart Allsports Kickback Program. Earlier this week I received our school quarterly rebate of $650 which we utilise to purchase sporting equipment for our students. Thank you to our staff, students and community on a wonderful term at our school. I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday period. Peter Hickey Principal

Scratch Club has been a raging success. Not only have students had the time to explore scratch games and scripts, they have created their own games and scenes. Students also collaborated, shared ideas and worked on a combined 'anti-bullying' scratch script. The skills they were so keen to practise on Monday afternoons have enhanced their problem solving, communication and technological skills. Thank you to all students for making this a success. Mrs Pope.
