    Music: As the opening scene of themovie begins a soft melody isprojected onto our screens,beginning quietly and softly andthen becoming increasinglylouder. However, even thoughthe volume increases it still

    manages to create and hold asoft sweet tune.

    As the scene continues the melodies volumebegins to increase as the soft melodybecomes louder. The setting of this sceneshows a young couple, kissing beside a lake. Ifyou listen carefully, you are able to hear birdstweeting in the background of the melody. Ibelieve that this works extremely well with the

    melody as youre hearing two soft, peacefulsounds of music.

    Continuing the opening scene, the volume of themelody begins to stay at a steady volume foraround 15 seconds before slowly becomingquieter. Again, this creates a very soft and peacefultune as a variety of notes are used in this 20second sequence. As the melody begins to quietendown you able to hear the soft tune which was first

    played in the first few seconds of the openingscene.

    The instruments heard in the next 20 secondsof this sequence portray another set of calm,soft musical notes. It might be said that whilstthe piano is the main instrument in thismelody, a flute, violin/cello can also be quietlyheard.

    The instruments which are heard in the following20 seconds of this sequence depict a continuationof calm, soft musical notes. Again, whilst the pianois the main sound heard in the melody, a flute,violin/cello can also be heard in the background ofthe melody.

    Effect: The effect this melody has on theaudience is somewhat calmingand peaceful. It relaxes you andattracts you to want to hearmore.

    Music: As the scene continues, the volume of the melody

    starts to quieten down again but then begins to getincreasingly louder. However, seconds later themelody decreases and becomes soft and quietagain, as if hearing a lullaby.

    Again, as the scene continues, the volume of the

    melody continues to increase and decrease. Oneminute its loud and a little bit upbeat and the nextminute the melody begins to quieten downbecoming soft and relaxing. However, the samesoundtrack is being repeated throughout thescenes, the only difference in each sequence is thetempo and volume.

    In the final section of this scene, the volume of the

    melody starts off increasingly loud. It is only whenKate Winslets character (Iris) begins to speak thatthe volume quietens down. The same tune whichwas played in the first few minutes of the openingscene of the film is reheard in the last few minutesof this particular scene.

    Dialogue: 8 seconds into the 20 second sequence KateWinslets character (Iris) is overheard explaining therules of love and quoting Shakespeares thoughtsabout love.

    In the entire section of this sequence KateWinslets character (Iris) is overheard discussingwhat love represents and how powerful it can be.She also explains how it affects her life today andperhaps Shakespeares thoughts about love arecorrect.

    Halfway through the scene of this sequence KateWinslets character (Iris) is heard explaining thedifferent meanings of love and how it affectspeoples lives. In this sequence she explains howsometimes love fades over time.

    Instruments: The instruments overheard in this 20 secondsequence portray a continuation of the samecalming, soft musical notes. Whilst the piano isheard as the main instrument in the melody, a flutecan also be heard in the background. In addition,
