TWINKLE, TWINKLE---T his is about stars. new and old.
A young man from D onaldsonville, La., played
all last season with Pete Mailhes' scrubs. The pas
sersby paid little heed to Pete's gallan t but un
sung little band. They paid less to this lad from
Donaldsonville. He didn' t show all the vim a nd
v igor in tn·~ world but he was trying.
Came I 9 3 I . Bernie Bierman made the usua l
promotions from the "B" team to the "A" squad.
Bill Schroeder of Donaldsonville was one o f the
boys called up.
The Texas Aggie, Ole Miss and Spring H ill games
fl~w by but Schroeder was still outside the picture.
Then came that dramatic game of games at Nash
v ille against the Commodores of Vanderbilt.
The little Iron soldier, Red McCormick, was taken out of the game in the second quarter - and who should go in but William Schroeder. A nd how h•a did go in! Fo r m o re than two quarters he was in there battling and stopp ing Commodores.
A nother of the m a ny who showed well was Nollie Felts, the sick man who made Vandy iJI. Felt's illness was catagious only to the Commodores, however.
H e stamped throug h their lin·.e twice for touchd owns, did some beautiful block ing and was seem* ingly in half the plays until he was carried from the field near the end of the game.
THESE RAMBLIN' ENGINEERS Coach Bill Alexand er, respected by every New
Orleans foo tball fan, is here today, as every one in Louisiana knows, with Georgia Tech · s Colden Tornado.
The Engineers a re primed to give the Creenies a battle to the last ditch and it will be a game in which Tulane must be on its toes from the start.
lt is H omecoming Day for Tulane's old g rads a nd they a re in the stands by the thousands.
T hey are hurling back across the field the words of the Olive a nd Blue in a nswer to the r•efrain:
'Tm a ramblin' wreck from Georgia Tech-
And a helluva, helluva Eng ineer.''
T he old Tulane men have been in the midst of a big timoa ever since they started trooping into good ole New Orleans yesterday.
May you come back often and long watch the Green Wave ro ll!
FLOW BILLOW, FLOW
Next Friday afternoon, Tulane's Baby Billowthe Freshies-will start their 1931 g ridiron campaign.
The Billow opponents will b .e the Alabama freshmen at the Old Tulane Stadium.
It will be the only h_gme game of the 193 1 Fresh* man schedule, the Auburn a nd Louisiana State frosh gam es both being away.
