    It was just another ordinary day . . .until Sonic, hero of justice, is accosted bya secret military force code-named G.U.N.

    Escaping the confines of a high-securityhelicopter, Sonic leaps dow n into t he citystreets in an effort to flee from his captors.Suddenly, a my sterious black hedgehogappears in front of him, grasping a ChaosEmerald in his hands. Mea nwh ile, acrossthe globe, unexplained incidents occurfollowing the declaration of world con-quest by Eggman himself.

    Once aw are of the connectionbetween Shadow and Dr.Egg man, Sonic begins his questto stop their evil plan, helpedalong the w ay b y his oldfriends: Tails and Knuckles.

    Unlike the other four characters, Knuckles and Rouge engage in treasure hunting. In order to

    complete t he stag e, they must collect bot h specified objects. Once they move into the vicinityof a desired object, the radar at the bottom of the screen will begin to flash from green toyellow to red a s the character moves closer to the object. You can obt ain hints for the locationof each o bject by viewing the monitor screens. Since these stages are not a race t o reach theGoal Ring, no point markers will appear.

    On both sides of the Story Mode, there is one Kart Stage where youwill drive a vehicle. Press and hold the A Button to accelerate, B/X tobrake, and $^ to steer. If you collect 20 or more rings, you can boostyour kart for a short period of time.There are tw o check points, dividing the course into three sections.There is also a time limit to reach t he check point, a nd you w ill lose onelife if you fail to reach the check point before time expires.

    You are a wa rded an emb lem for satisfying certainconditions, such as clearing a stage, Chao race,etc. You can verify the emblems and number of

    stages cleared in the Emblem Results Screen.

    EMBLEM S

    Technique points are aw arded in different wa ys for each type of stage.For Sonic and Shadow, you can earn them by performing tricks from thejump-boards or continuous Homing Att acks. For Tails and Dr. Egg man,

    defeating more enemies on one Lock-on will earn technique points. ForKnuckles and Rouge, the amount depends on the number of hints youreceived (less hints, m ore points).

    TECHNIQUE POINTS

    Among the containers that appear on each stage, there are three lightblue containers called Chao cont ainers. The first Chao cont ainer con-tains a Cha o key, w hich is a key to the Chao g arden. The second con-tains small animals. What is inside the third one? You’ll just have to findout for yourself.

    CHAO CONTAINERS

    Allows characters to play a mysteriomelody.

    MYSTIC MELODYIn each stage, you can rescue small animals hiddenin many places. If you defea t enemies, you can collect

    “ Chaos drives.” Animals and Chao s drives are useful in raising Chao. ForTails and Dr. Eggma n, Cha os drives will also recover lost HP b y a little.If you rescue all small animals in the stage, you are also aw arded anextra life.

    When the Stage Select is selected, a map of t he w orld will appear cov-ered with character icons, each representing a stage. Use $^*@ toselect the sta ge, and press A to enter. To return to the Sub-Menu of1P Play Mo de, press B.

    When the stage is selected, you will then select the mission for thestag e. There are five missions in each stage , but you can only select themissions in order. If you are not sa tisfied with yo ur score on a missionyou have already played, you can select it ag ain. Use $^ to select themission, and press A to start the ga me. To cancel the stag e, press B.Here are descriptions of each mission:

    1st Accomplish clear condition for each character.2nd Collect 100 rings. (Stage loops until you collect 100.)3rd Find lost Chao somewhere in the sta ge. You must possess

    Next, select the course to play on, from: BEGINNER, STANDARD,EXPERT, an d DO WNLOAD (course dow nloaded from the official we bsite).

    A game w ill be displayed in full screen if youare playing t he 1P g ame, a nd w ill be dividedinto tw o (top/bottom) if you are playing the 2Pgame.

    You will race three laps in a game . If youcollect 20 or more rings, you can activate aboost (press Y) for a short period of time.

    In this game, t here exists a mysterious artificial life form [A-LIFE] called “ Chao .” Cha o live inan environment called “ Chao w orld.” They create a very unique ecosystem, learning andbreeding according to t he player’s actions.

    To meet Chao, you must find and collect a Chao key before clearing anAction Stage. After clearing the stage, yo u will be able to go to theChao world.

    M EETING CHAO

    You can visit Cha o ga rden from Chao w orld entrance. The followingitems can be found in Chao garden: Chao eggs, a tree with nuts (foodfor Chao) and seeds, a Chao transporter, and an Entrance to the Chaostadium.Once you are in the Chao garden, the character will release Chaosdrives and small animals you have collected in the Action Stage. Theseare essential to transforming your Chao. Note that t ime in Chao gardenpasses only while you are present w ithin the garden itself.
