SonarDôme stageCovering an area of 800 m2 on Plaça dels Àngelssquare, in front of the MACBA, it holds 1,500 people and showcases musical proposals that reflect the latest trends on the international electronics scene.

Magazine LoungeThe Sonar magazine lounge, the designated space of a selection of national and international music, tendency, art andfashion publications associated to the festival, serves as a meeting and relaxation point, situated in the very heart of thefestival (Pati Dones), in a music free zone, and one that serves as a connection between the exhibited activities of theCCCB and the open air concerts, A space where the magazine representatives may contact freely with public and professionals, and with decor beingspecifically designed to meet this laid back, meeting point function where the public, professionals and artists alike can share and enjoy a laid back atmosphere.

Meet the Expert SonarPro is organising Meet The Expert, meetingswith experts from various business sectors in thecultural industries, so that SonarPro accreditationholders can ask questions, ask for advice or simplychat with them in 10-minute sessions.

Hotel PulizterThe terrace of the rooftop of the Pulitzer Hotel, just 5 minutes from the Sonar by Day area, will once againbe a meeting point for Sonar accreditation holdersthis year. It is a place to enjoy music, have a drinkand relax from the hustle and bustle of the festival, and an ideal bridge between your time at Sonar by Day and Sonar by Night.The terrace, which has a capacity limited to 100 people and will be exclusively for accreditationholders, will be open on the three days of Sonar from7pm until 11pm.

Common ProjectsCommon creation project in collaboration withaccreditation holders and festivals attendees. Opento distinctive sectors of the creative and cultural industries (audio-visual, design, musical, technological, multmedia...)Platform for developing ideas linked to a brand orinstitution that wishes to support the project ( briefingdefinition, participation model...)

Digital Music 2.0 SonarPro presents the Digital Music 2.0/10 seminars, a series of panels in collaboration with the BusinessDevelopment Service of the Catalan Institute of theCultural Industries (ICIC).The DM2.0/10 seminars will feature national andinternational speakers with extensive experience in theworld of music in the 2.0 environment, which they willdiscuss using case studies.

The Public

Urban Spanish and European youth According to a consumer study undertaken in Sónar, 73% of its attendees were aged between 19 and 30, have middle and upper social economic backgrounds and come from large cities and towns of over 20,000 inhabitants.57% of the people who attended the festival were from Spain. 37% came from Europe: 41% UK, 17% Italy, 15% Germany, 13% France and 14% from other countries. The remaining 6% come from other world countries: Japan (16%), United States (14%) and Brazil (13%).

Highly informed and new media consumer68% of the Sónar attendees had university degrees.

They are a very well informed audience with very distinct cultural interests. They come to Sónar for its broad and high quality programme. They regard the festival as a paradigmatic and state-of-the-art event in its field.

Our audience regularly attends avant garde culturalactivities and shows, clubs and concerts, and is made up of electronic and multimedia art fans. They read specialized cultural publications in the daily press, music magazines, leisure and cultural events guides and listen to radio programmes withpredominantly musical contents and also watch cultural, music TV programmes and specialized webs.

90% of the 2007 attendees consult webs regularly, 31% enters blogs and 28% participates in chats.32% are 2.0 webs members (myspace mainly), 37% listen to on line radios and 28% download podcasts.

The Professionals

-Managers, agents and representatives of national and international artists.-Promoters and organizers of musical and cultural events.-Managers and executives from the record industry, from independent and multinational companies.-Managers and executives from the record distribution and editorial industry.-Manufacturers, importers and distributors of computer software and hardware.-Directors of cultural affairs and events from public institutions.-Clubs and concert hall owners and promoters.-Organizers and directors of festivals, symposiums and musical events.-Academics from centers for music education.-General media and media specialized in music, culture, computer science, multimedia and the Internet.-Marketing and advertising professionals: marketing directors, accounts executives, creative directors and producers. -Fashion professionals.

Participating Artists

Around 661 artists made an appearance at the last edition of Sónar in a variety of settings and stages. A total of over 6.827 artists have performed or have presented their work during the seventeen editions of the festival that have taken place so far. The aim has always been to present a programme with quality and representative proposals.

Sónar’s influence on the social and cultural scene

During its seventeen years of existence, Sónar has become a frontline event on the national and international scene of cultural activities which are linked to new technologies and avant garde artistic creation. Sónar has been and continues to be an entry point for new trends and artistic proposals from all over the planet. It is an excellent living showcase of the evolution of the popular culture of our time.The festival has become a first rate intellectual agitator, capable of influencing various social and cultural partners within the country and facilitating the acceptance of the new.Sónar is an essential venue for restless audiences.

An audience open to experienceThey are people who are open to new experiences, new ways of thinking and creating.

Sónar satisfies the needs generated by an audience with these distinct characteristics and makes a concerted effort every year to furnish the festival with interesting content that possess the basic ingredient: originality and innovation.

This capacity to reinvent itself pertains to theconstant reinvention on the publics behalf (48% ofattendees were first timers) and thefidelity/faithfulness of the other part(52% of attendees have attended more than twoeditions of the festival.)
