1 Corinthians 13: If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of

angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging

cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all

mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to

end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child,

In gratitude and humble trust we bring our best today,

to serve Your cause, to share Your love

and show to all Your way.

O God, who gave Yourself to us in Jesus Christ Your Son,

teach us to give ourselves each day

until life’s work is done.

*OFFERTORY PRAYER Nancy Kerr

(Persons wishing to make known a decision to follow Christ as Lord or to join First Baptist Church are invited to come forward while the organist plays the first verse of the recessional hymn. You may join First Baptist Church by transfer of letter, statement of faith, or baptism. The pastor will greet you as you come forward this morning.)

ACOLYTES ENTER ON LAST VERSE OF HYMN

*HYMN OF RESPONSE #504 I Am Thine, O Lord Doane

This hymn is one of many hymns written by Fanny Crosby, a prolific

American hymn writer. The melody was composed by William

Howard Doane. The former was talking with the latter one night about

the proximity of God and penned the words before retiring for the

night.

Miriam’s Dance ................................ Joel Martinson

Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

-Exodus 15:20

At the close of today’s service, the Lord’s Supper will be

celebrated in the Chapel located to the left of the chancel.

Immediately following the Lord’s Supper, a service of prayer

for healing will also be held. The service consists of prayers

for healing and wholeness, with anointing and laying on of

hands. All are invited.

Prayer for the Armed Forces

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace, strengthen them in their trials and temptations, give them courage to face the perils which beset them, and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LEAD at NEON

Free film! TODAY @ 3 pm @ The Neon

Free to Ride documents the LEAD (Leaders for Equality and Action in

Dayton) advocacy achieving Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority

bus service to Beavercreek. Persons can now take public

transportation to jobs and health care in the area of the Fairfield Mall. A

U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Department civil

rights suit filed by LEAD through ABLE (Advocates for Basic Legal

Equality) took the Beavercreek City Council from a ‘no’ vote for the

RTA service extension application to a ‘yes’ vote. The City did not wish

to lose federal highway monies. The Ohio State University’s Kirwan

Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity produced an award-

winning documentary on the advocacy process. At the (Washington)

DC 2017 Independent Film Festival with some 8000 film entries, some

200 of which were documentaries, Free to Ride was named Best

Documentary.

Guest Organist August 6th

Fred Chatfield will serve as guest organist at our worship service on

Sunday, August 6. Fred is no stranger to the Dayton area where he has

served as music director at Christ United Methodist Church in

Kettering. He is a graduate of Yale and is also an ordained minister. He

has performed as an organist and recitalist throughout the country and

has been featured with the Dayton Philharmonic.
