Jungle Terrain Brings New ChallengesLocated off the southern
coast of the United States, this U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)
installation in this central location is ideal for keeping watch
over the region. The rural island geography presented unique
challenges for IT, as 86 network locations were scattered
throughout the jungle terrain. Sending technicians to these sites
every time the network encountered an issue was inefficient for a
team that simply did not have the staff to cover all locations.
Furthermore, the tropical climate exposed the network to a series
of atypical hazards such as the islands wildlife and hurricane
danger. IT needed the ability to manage power from a central
location in the event of a network outage or in anticipation of
extreme inclement weather. The MRV out-of-band network provided

the New York State Unified Court System (NYSCS) is commissioned to
