    PREAMBLE:

    THE PAST AND THE PRESENT

    Muslims rose to greatness through the Quran, which built them up into

    a World-Force dedicated to the service of Humanity, and they led

    Humanity for a long time in every phase of human activity; spiritual,

    moral, intellectual, aesthetical, economic and political. But it is a

    tragedy of human nature that it is easy for human beings to continue to

    stick to certain beliefs but difficult to maintain the tempo of the

    struggle for executing the Practice.

    The same has happened to the Muslims, who have fallen from their

    pinnacle of glory because of their progressive digression from the

    Quranic Way of Life.

    Today;

    The old-fashioned as well as the outwardly-westernized religious-

    minded Muslims, who form the overwhelming majority, are

    demonstrating in their lives a view of Islam which confines their

    obligation to devotional and ceremonial practices aloneleaving out

    even morality;while:The truly-westernized, secularized, modernized

    Muslims,who are emerging as the major controlling force in many

    Muslim communities, are groping in the darkness of utterconfusion;

    and in sheer ignorance they look greedily tofashionable un-Islamic and

    anti-Islamic ideologies andmodes of life for imitation and adoption.

    Taking Humanity as a whole;

    In the ideological war that is raging all over the world between the

    Ideational and the Sensate cultural points of viewbetween the forces

    of the other-worldly religions andthis-worldly social philosophies,

    wherein the Higher Values of Life are becoming progressively

    submerged in the precarious situation of Secularismalso, of rank

    Materialism, Atheism,Nihilism and Libertinism, leading to grave

    imbalance in the lives of the Individuals and the Communities to the

    heights ofa Mighty Crisis, a Philosophy and a Code of Life based on

    Integralism is needed very urgentlya Philosophy and a Code that may

    establish a Culture where in all humany earnings, ranging from the

    Transcendental to the Physical, may find their fulfillment and whereby

    Humanity may be enabled to achieve its true Destiny.That Philosophy

    and that Code of Life has been given in theHoly Quran. And the present

    work, being a systematic and Comprehensive

    exposition of the same, forms the need of the hour and deserves

    serious study by everyone who possesses a serious attitude towards

    the problems (CONFLICTS) of life.

    RELIGION (ISLAM): Source of Real Guidance

    The general view of mankind concerning Religion is that its function is

    confined to the problem of salvation (Preservation or deliverance from

    harm, ruin, or loss) in the next world.But present-day Humanity has

    become increasingly interested in achieving salvation in the present

    world.Hence Religion has fallen into disrepute as something incapableof solving human problems relating to the earthly life;, also even as

    adefinite impediment to human progress.Here Islam has a unique role

    to play, because it is definitely,directly and vehemently committed to

    the salvation of Humanity inboth the worlds: the present one as well as

    the next.Indeed, Islams role stands at an even higher level, because it

    substitutes the positive concept of fulfillment for the negative

    conceptof salvation. And its concept of fulfillment comprehends thehealthy and harmonious development of the Individual and the Society

    in all respects: spiritual, aesthetical, moral, intellectual and physical. All

    in all, Islam stands in history as Eternal Guidance: the Guidance for

    yesterday, today and tomorrow.

    FAITH WITH MORALITY: (A Revolutionary Strength)

    Faith is such a power that it keeps men away from low attributes and

    mean acts, and encourages him to achieve highattributes and clean

    morals. That is why whenever Allah called his slaves towards virtue or

    whenever He wanted them to hate evil, He declared it as an essential

    requirement of the Faith in their hearts. For example when He; in Surah

    Taubah, commands men to adopt righteousness and to speak truth, He

    addresses them as:

    Allah's Messenger has nicely explained it that when faith is firm and

    belief is strong, then strong and lasting moral will be developed, and if

    the moral character is low then faith will accordingly be weak. A man,

    who is immodest and ill-mannered and who adopts bad habits without

    caring for others, is like the person about whom the Holy Prophet has

    said:

    Modesty and faith are twins. One who gives up one has to lose the

    other too.

    Once the Prophet passed by an Ansari who was scolding his brotherabout his immodesty. The Prophet advised him to let him go as

    modesty was a branch of faith.

    A man who harasses his neighbour and makes him suffer any kind of

    damage is called cruel and stonehearted by the religion. In this

    connection the decision of the Prophet is :

    By God, he cannot be a Momin ; by God, he cannot be a Momin; byGod, he cannot be a Momin. He was asked: 'who' one, He answered:

    'He from whose misdeeds his neighbour is not safe.'

    (Bukhari)

    The holy Prophet (Peace be upon him)advises his companions to keep

    away from the talk that is trash, the acts that are wicked, and the deeds

    that are senseless. He says:

    A person who believes in Allah and the Here after should speak

    about good things or else should keep quiet.

    (Bukhari)

    The Prophet(Peace be upon him) was asked:

    Which Muslim has the perfect faith ? He answered: He who has thebest moral character.

    (Tibrani)

    In this way through the truth of faith and by means of its perfection

    noble qualities are nurtured and developed and they are guarded and

    kept secure till they bear fruits.

    UNITY (THE CHALLENGE OF TWENTIETH CENTURY)

    The concept of Unity is the foundation of the Muslim community and

    the very essence of Islam. As we all know, the most important principle

    that has been given to us in Islam is the principle of tawheed ( unity)

    We have been called an ummah, a community, who shares the same

    ideal. As soon as the ideal changes the ummah does not remain one

    any longer. It can then be considered as different communities orideological groups.

    As the Holy Quran says:

    It is indivisible and cannot be divided on the basis of race, languages or

    on the basis of various groups of the north, south, east or west. This

    ummatan wahidatan (one community) was one concept on which this

    community started on its journey in history.

    A command has been given by the Lord and King of this universe, who

    cannot be disobeyed under any pretext. And Allah commands:

    This division has been taking place in history and also among Muslims

    on two grounds:

    o political ( where there has been a clash between vested interestsand personalities.

    o theological bickering, quarrelling over petty things.Regarding the clash of the egos and personalities of which we have

    been warned in the Holy Quran:

    You will enjoy no honour in the eyes of other communities. They will

    insult you because you no longer remain a challenge. The challenge can

    be met only by a group which is linked in a spirit of absolute unity. This

    hand has five fingers and each finger is weak in itself, but if I combine it

    into a fist, then it has hitting power and strength.

    The clash of vested interests is something terrible. It is human nature to

    project ones ego but Allah says about this human nature:

    The other problem is the creation of meaningless, purposeless,

    groundless and aimless theological questioning and bickering. The

    Quran tells us that after the guidence has come to you,

    The Quran says that this community that has been raised with this

    mission is not based on race, language, territory or colour. It is acommunity based on an ideal towards which they strive to achieve

    Excellence of Hiding Faults

    Personal conflicts that are not based on Shariah usually result in long

    periods of suspicion,backbiting, spreading rumours, accusations and

    other majorsins, consequently making both parties worthy of the

    punishmentof Hell. The sin of publicly spreading each others faults due

    topersonal conflicts has become very common therefore a greatdeal of

    care is needed. It is very important that a Muslims faults be kept secret

    if anyone becomes aware of them. There is great reward for concealingthe faults of a Muslim. Sayyiduna Uqba bin Amir narrates that

    the blessed Prophet, master of both worlds, king of the

    messengers,fountain of compassion and generosity said,

    Ifsomeone conceals a secret fault of a person after seeing it, it is as

    if he has brought a girl to life who had been buried alive.

    (Al-Mujamul Ausa7, V6, P97, _adi 8133)

    Tolerance and Forbearance

    Original nature of a man and his natural temperament playa very big

    part in a man's being hot tempered or softhearted, serious or hasty,

    righteous or wicked. But there is a very deep relation between a man's

    self confidence and his solemn behavior with others and in forgiving

    the errors of others People react differently to the motivations and theoccasions that generate feelings of sorrow and pain.Some people are

    provoked by ordinary things, and they become unmindful of every

    thing and in haste take a very unwise step. But there are also such

    persons as pass through various hardships and adversities and yetdo

    GOOD CONDUCT

    not forget to behave with seriousness, wisely, with tolerance and good

    manners.

    It is true that the original nature of a man and his natural temperament

    playa very big part in a man's being hot tempered or soft hearted,

    serious or hasty, righteous or wicked. But there is a very deep relation

    between a man's self confidence and his solemn behavior with others

    and in forgiving the errors of others

    Hurting Muslims

    The issue of fulfilling the duties of others is a very delicate one but

    unfortunately today no-one cares.Never mind the public, even the

    prominent are seen to beneglecting this vital duty. The illness of

    displaying angerunnecessarily is a common problem.Even the

    prominent oftenhurt the feelings of others out of anger but do not

    care. Hurting the feelings of any Muslim without a valid reason is a

    major sin, and will lead to Hell.

    Ala -Hadrat writes in Fatawa-e-Razaviyyah Sharif (V24, P342) withreference to Tabarani Sharif that the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon

    him) has warned,

    If anyone hurts a Muslim (without a proper reason) it is as if he

    has hurt me and he who hurts me it is as if he has hurt Allah

    (Al-Mujamul Ausa7, V2, P387, _hadi 3607)

    Hurting Allah and His Messenger is an evil trait of the disbelievers.

    Allah says in the 57th verse of Surah A_zab,

    KEEP YOUR BOSOM FREE FROM RANCOUR AND ENMITY

    What would be a better way of giving comfort to hearts, of removing

    sorrow and of providing coolness to the eyes than that man should

    live the life with a healthy and peaceful heart. His bosom should be freefrom the disturbances of rancor , jealousy and ill feelings for others.

    Islam pays special attention to heart, for a black heart tarnishes

    righteous acts, it disfigures its attractiveness, and it stains and mars its

    brightness. And if the heart is glowing, then Allah bestows prosperity

    even on a small act of righteousness , and towards it every good rushes

    speedily and makes its place in it heart.

    Abdullah bin A'mar narrates:

    "The Messenger of Allah was asked as to what people were great (in

    virtue).

    The Prophet (Peace be upon him) replied:

    'One whose heart is neat and clean, and whose tongue is

    truthful.' He was told: 'We are aware of the truthful tongue but what

    is the meaning of neat and clean heart.'He replied: 'One that fears

    God, is free from evils, there is no sin in it, neither insubordination,jealousy nor rancour'."

    (Ibn Majah)

    Therefore, in reality the Muslim society truly is that which is based on

    mutual love, friendship, brotherhood, the feeling for mutual

    cooperation and straight dealings. There is no room for an ungrateful

    person in that society, no place for a person nursing jealousy and

    rancour in his bosom; on the contrary his condition should be like this:

    There are many evils in the society about which Islam has warned. If we

    think seriously, it will not be difficult to findout their source.In spite of

    all these evils having different shapes and forms, they revolve round

    only one basic disease, and that is rancour and enmity,

    THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SOCIETY:

    According to Islam the society itself plays a very important role in thespread of good or evil that spreads in that society. It (Islam) wants to

    attain power because it wants, with other things, to form a society in

    such a way that it may be helpful in encouraging chastity,

    righteousness, aversion from wickedness, proliferation or good acts,

    indifferent to love for world, steadfastness for the right path and

    consistency.

    The Prophet (Peace be upon him) has told the story or a murderer who

    wanted to repent for his crimes. He inquired of the address of the

    greatest learned man of the land. His name was given to him, whom he

    saw and said :

    I have committed hundred murders. Is there any chance of

    repentance for me ? He was told: What thing can come

    between you and repentance. Go to a particular place where some

    good slaves of Allah reside and are always found

    worshipping Him. You also join them in worshipping. and do not

    return to your village, because it is a bad place

    -(Bukhari)

    In another version it is narrated that he went to a monk and .related his

    whole story and placed his difficulty before him. The monk told him :

    You have committed a big mistake. How am I concerned with this,However, there are two villages One of them is

    named 'Nasrah' that is supporter , of Allah and the other one is

    named 'Kufrah' that is rejector of God. The people of

    Nasrab perform the deeds of the people of the paradise. Any person

    who follows other method cannot stay there. The citizens of Kufrah

    perform the deeds of the people of the hell. There is no room for the

    people following other policies to stay there. Therefore, you go to the

    people of Nasrah. If you stayed there and worked like those people,

    then there would be no doubt about the acceptance of your

    repentance.(Tibrani)

    For this reason Islam says that for the safety of the healthy nature and

    for the training and reform of the rebellious tendencies the care and

    vigilance of the environment is necessary, and in the formation of the

    good moral character it plays a very important role,

    We are sure that if all these aspects are taken care of, then a clean and

    tidy society can be brought into; existence, in which pure qualities andchaste character may be nourished

    MODERN CIVILIZATION AND MUSLIM YOUTH

    Muslims all over the world are faced with the problem of readjustment

    to the environment. We are unable to find a solution to our present

    decline and degradation, whether we belong to South Africa, Pakistan

    or the Arab world or anywhere else. Muslims find themselves in critical

    conditions and are even insulted. A Muslim poet asked: fiWhat has

    happened to us, that today we are looked down upon by the other

    communities of the world? We have become like international

    mercenaries and outcasts.Despite the fact that we are seven hundred

    million in the world and the inheritors of the glorious history of Islam,

    we enjoy no status in the international affairs of the world.

    How is this challenge to be met? Reformers arose in many countries

    and they tried to cure the disease which inflicted the Muslims, but

    conditions have degenerated. This community has been divided into

    more sects because we are not producing thinkers like Imam Ghazzali,

    and many others. We are producing charlatans, very ordinary persons

    including myself. We dont understand and are like the blind men from

    India who went to see an elephant. We do not have that wisdom

    therefore matters are becoming worse! The one blind person says thatthe elephant is like a thick rope, another says that it is like a pillar. Are

    we not doing the same? Why are we becoming more divided and not

    progressing like the early Muslims? That healthy spiritual and

    intellectual climate does not exist anymore. Neither do the conditions

    for a healthy, moral pattern of life.

    Can this be our end? No, it cannot be! Even if one spark remains, it can

    be converted into the biggest fire that can burn out all the evil within

    us. This is the same spark our Prophet placed in the hearts of his

    companions. This spark is that genuine Iman in Almighty Allah. If we can

    only understand that Iman is not a mere ritual or formal exercise, but

    something real and alive which must be cultivated. This force made our

    forefathers great and this Iman became the real challenge. But this

    Iman was not for any racial or political aggrandisement, nor for causingany harm or evil to anyone. This Iman was a challenge only for the

    establishment for all that is good and eradicating all that is evil for all of

    humanity. We shall have to return to that Iman

    When we read the Quran and the life of the Holy Prophet and his

    companions, we will discover that we are very different, even those

    amongst us who are representatives of Islam. Read the Quran and try

    to think about the qualities of a genuine Muslim:

    Today, our enemies have no need to destroy us, for Muslims kill and

    damage [other] Muslims best! This is our condition. This topic requires

    volumes, but whatever has been said it is not to become frustrated,

    Allah Almighty says:
