Each of these women (with fictional names), without knowing it, carries the deep wound of an abortion they had voluntarily or pressured by a relative or boyfriend. According to Pope Francis this is a “profoundly unjust” . . . “moral and existential ordeal”. This is why, during this Jubilee, he has extended to all the priests of the world “the discretion to absolve of the sin of abortion those who have procured it and who, with a contrite heart, seek forgiveness for it” (September 1, 2015 letter to Archbishop Rino Fisichella). Who among us does not know at least one woman who has had an abortion? This is not a question of judging or condemning, but rather of reaching out to them during this Jubilee Year of Mercy in order to bring them to the Physician of souls Christ, who is full of love and compassion. Let us be more attentive to their silent cry and their forbidden suffering. There could be no greater spiritual work of mercy than to bring one’s mother, one’s sister, friend or colleague to the Sacrament of Reconciliation where Christ awaits them, longing to extend his healing and forgiveness. So let us walk on May 12 in solidarity with the unborn children who ask only to be born. Novena to the Holy Spirit started last Friday at 6.30pm The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His Apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. Schedule: On Saturdays’ novena begins before the Mass at 4.30PM and Sunday 20 minutes before Masses. On Monday & Tuesday it will begin with evening prayer at 6.30PM and Holy Mass, Adoration & Novena to follow. Wednesday- Friday Novena & Adoration will start at 6.30PM. Plz. join! GENERAL AUDIENCE POPE FRANCIS May 4, 2016 Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing catechesis for this Holy Year of Mercy, we now turn to Jesus’ parable of the Good Shepherd. The Lord uses the image of the shepherd who leaves his flock to go in search of one lost sheep to express God’s closeness to sinners. God does not want even a single person to be lost. In his infinite mercy, he is always ready to meet us wherever we are. The example of the Good Shepherd also challenges us to go out in search of those in particular need of God’s mercy, especially those who have gone astray. Jesus teaches us that in his eyes there are no lost sheep, but only sheep needing to be found. The joy which the Good Shepherd feels must also be the joy of the entire flock. For all of us are lost sheep who were found by the Lord’s mercy. All of us are called to rejoice in his merciful love, to bring that love to others and thus to join him in gathering into the fold all those whom he wishes to save. It was really a great event. I take this opportunity to thank all the donors and all who helped to run this program. Special thanks to the CWL members of our Parish for their whole hearted involvement in this program. Unit President Mrs.Jennifer Labenski and Convener Mrs.Mary Ricci were behind this wonderful achievement. I also thank Mr.Stephen Martin and Doug & Pat Garant for preparing the lunch items and Toni Garofalo for the book keeping. Thanks to all who participated in this event and made it so great.
