o Voltage Regulation can be achieved using Fixed Voltage regulators like LM 7805 series.
o Adjustable Voltage Regulators like LM317, LM338 and more provide precise output level.

o Both of the mentioned techniques have low conversion efficiency.
o Lot of energy is wasted as heat.
o Heat sink is compulsory.

Step down Mode of MC 34063A
• Transistor Q1 interrupts input voltage & provided as
variable duty cycle square wave to the LC filter.
• The filter averages the square wave producing a dc
voltage.
• Percentage conduction ON time is controlled to get
desired voltage level.
