The Internet of the Future … … will be the enabler for the new service landscape
The Software-Service landscape will change:
from packaged software to software as a service
from application programming to service composition
from software application provider to software service eco systems
from passive users to active users
from pure service provisioning to context aware service delivery

Internet of the Future …
… a service centric
network … pervasive, ubiquitous
and highly dynamic
… providing almost unlimited capacity… supporting a wide variety of nomadic interoperable devices
and services,
a variety of content formats
and a multiplicity of delivery modes. … supporting context awareness
and the dynamic behavior
needed for
applications with time and context varying requirements; … guaranteeing robustness, resilience, trust and security … reaching a complexity and scale
that are an order of magnitude greater than
those of today’s infrastructures… supporting networked and managed business and service convergence
across a multiplicity of environments
such as the home, businesses, or nomadic situations.
The development of the new service landscape and of the Internet
of the Future requires a holistic approach!

Internet of Services
Services will be considered as products and they will be available in the Internet.
The Internet is the prerequisite to make services tradable like products.
The Internet will be the worldwide market place for services(ecosystem for services).
Services have to be composable to new services which offer a value add.
New business models will guarantee the revenues for service providers.
Platforms for provisioning and use of services will be based on Web 3.0 concepts.
SOA is a prerequisite.

The Internet of the Future is the base for the new service economy.

Today 1,5 billion people use the Internet. In a view years, over 4 billionusers and billions more devices and objects will be connectedanywhere and anytime.
All items like vehicles, home appliances, consumergoods, machinery will be connected to the Internet.
Sensors will record our environment. Smart objects and products willcommunicate among themselves as well as with the user.
As a consequence the context of humans and objects can be determined.
The objects (things) will be embedded in business processes and willbecome active parts in processes.
All objects connected to the Internet offer services and some require services. That means, there is close relationship to the Internet of Services.
The Internet of Things is closely related to the Internet of Services

Semantic Technologies (Web 3.0) Enabling the new service ecosystem
Web 3.0 is the extension of Web 2.0 by semantics.
Information will be transferred to knowledge with the help of Semantic Technologies.
Knowledge and information can be found more precisely than with existing Web technologies.
New knowledge will be generated automatically from available knowledge.
Web 3.0 will enable the new service eco-systems. Prerequisite for service discovery and service composition are the semantic description of functional and none-functional properties of services.

Cross Sectional Services
Cross sectional services are basic services for many application domains:
Interoperability services
Cloud Computing
Visualization services, especially 3D visualization
Web 3.0 Services e.g. search, semantic tagging, annotations

Actions to be taken: Communication Infrastructure
New Internet protocols:
Development of simpler and more efficient Internet protocols to guarantee connectivity, scalability and Quality of Service(vs. “best effort”).
Protocols have to enable the communication infrastructure to provide
availability of resources / robustness, mobility of users, devices and data, security…
… as services
Networks have to become service centric.

European Union Plans a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Future Internet
Support an holistic approach for the development of the new service ecosystem and the development of the Future Internet
Establish international test beds for the Internet of the Future and for service platforms
Foster the development of standards for the new Internet and for the service infrastructure
Organize the dialogue with all international stakeholders in the arena of the new service ecosystem and of the Future Internet
