IntroductionThis demonstration guide containsexercises designed to quickly familiarizeyou with the features and functions ofFluke’s software and hardware for dataacquisition and analysis. NetDAQ Logger,Hydra Logger, and Trend Link for Flukedemonstrations are covered in this guide.

NetDAQ® and NetDAQ®

Logger for Windows

NetDAQ Networked DataAcquisition Units transmitdata over general or dedi-cated (isolated) networks. Each NetDAQ has 20 chan-nels which may be pro-grammed individually toperform virtually any signalconditioning function theuser requires. Two modelsof NetDAQ offer the user achoice of higher speed scan-ning to 1000 Readings/sec.,0.01% basic Vdc accuracy, and up to 300 Volts channelto channel isolation.

NetDAQ Logger forWindows is a configuration

portable data acquisitionequipment. Hydra is easyto configure from the frontpanel while in the field, orfrom computer via simpleRS232 connection.

Hydra Logger for Win-dows is a configuration anddata management programfor the Hydra Series of prod-ucts. This program is avail-able as a 32-bit application*,contains modem support forremote data communications, utilizes DDE, and is availablewith or without Trend Linkfor Fluke trending and dataanalysis capabilities.

and data management pro-gram for the NetDAQ system. This program is available asa 32-bit application, sup-ports up to 20 units (400channels), utilizes DDE, andis available with or withoutTrend Link trending anddata analysis capabilities.

Hydra and HydraLogger for WindowsHydra is Fluke’s portable se-ries of data acquisition prod-ucts. Three models of Hydrasoffer the user 21 individuallyprogrammable channels ofsignal conditioning, a uniqueUniversal Input Module forquick easy connections,PCMCIA memory storage, and precision rarely seen in

Trend Link for Fluke

Trend Link is a comprehen-sive trend plotting andanalysis package that plotsdata graphically in real time.Trend Link allows you toquickly scroll through realtime and historical data, view data from all channelssimultaneously, compare realtime data to an historicaltemplate in batch mode, andsuperimpose selected chan-nels for closer analysis. Anyportion of a trend may beexamined more closely byutilizing Trend Link’s Zoomfunction.

Within the confines ofthis demonstration guide weare able to give you only abrief introduction to some ofTrend Link’s basic functions.Upon finishing the structuredsections in this guide wewould invite you to spendsome time exploring thisunique software package.

Demonstration Software

Demonstration programs arefully functional and do notinhibit program features inany way. This allows you toexplore a full-featured pack-age to ensure it fully meetsyour application needs.

These programs do how-ever operate for 60 min. andthen close down, requiringa restart of the program tocontinue.

Obtaining DemonstrationSoftware

If you do not already havethe software you wish toreview or would like to havesoftware sent to a colleagueyou may obtain it from thefollowing sources:

Contact your local Flukeoffice and ask that demon-stration software be sent toyou for evaluation. In theUnited States and Canadayou can call 800-44-FLUKEfor assistance in obtainingsoftware. For Europe call(31 40) 644200 and fromother countries call1-206-356-5500.

Demonstration softwareand hardware may also beobtained from your localFluke representative.

World Wide Web: Youmay download the demon-stration software of yourchoice by connecting to:http//www.fluke.com.Once connected, select theproduct information area andthen select Data AcquisitionProducts. There you canreview product specifica-tions, application notes, and download demonstra-tion software.

Obtaining DemonstrationHardware

Hydra or NetDAQ hardwaremay be made availablethrough your local Flukerepresentative. Dependingon your needs and currentavailability, our representa-tives can often accommodateyou within a short time withthe product you would liketo review.

NetDAQ Requirements:

The following equipmentis required to perform theexercises in this guidewhen using the actualNetDAQ demonstrationinstrument (2640A or2645A) supplied to you byyour Fluke representative:• NetDAQ Networked Data

Acquisition Unit (2640Aor 2645A)

• NetDAQ Logger forWindows demo disk set

• Parallel-to-LAN Adapter(PLA) with in-linepower adapter

• Ethernet cable suppliedwith NetDAQ

• (2) 50 Ohm Terminators(one included with theNetDAQ unit and onewith the PLA)

• (2) BCN connectors(“Y” or “T” style)

• Type “T” thermocouple(provided with theNetDAQ demo unit)

• You have an availableparallel port on yourcomputer (For hardwaredemo only)

• You have no networkmanagement softwareinstalled on the computerother than that suppliedby your Windowsoperating system.

This guide covers the in-stallation of NetDAQ Logger,Hydra Logger, and TrendLink software as well ashardware setup and configu-ration of NetDAQ and Hydra.

To use this guide, followthe instructions for only thehardware and software youare working with, eitherNetDAQ or Hydra.

This guide will step youthrough setting up connec-tions on the Universal InputModule and show you howto verify communication set-tings of your NetDAQ orHydra unit. (If you areevaluating software onlyyou may skip the hard-ware section and start atthe section for software in-stallation for the packageyou are using.) Note thatall demonstration softwarepackages include Trend Linkfor Fluke so regardless of thepackage you are using youwill need to follow the in-structions for the installationof this software.

The last section of thisguide will step you througha brief introduction of TrendLink features and invite youto further explore TrendLink’s extensive features.
