realization of unexpected connection..... CONFLUENCE“There has never been a more challenging time than now to market authentic artisan handicrafts. “Traders with huge unds are entering the e-commerce market. They are selling machine made, easily replicable, items as the real thing and unsuspecting customers are buying it in the droves. This deprives the original craftsmen of their livelihood who are surviving in the throes of poverty. Many of them earn less than 500 rupees a month,”

These skills and techniques are passed down from generation to generation. Our modern day commercial practices are wiping out the last generation of skilled craftsmen while effectively eradicating the very existence of that craft.

To bring dignity and prosperity into the lives of Bengal craftsmen while introducing to the world their heritage arts, crafts, and handloom through e-commerce Project Rangamaati was started as an attempt towards reviving Bengal's Handicrafts & Handlloom.

FLOWfeeling totally in sync with what I was doing

It’s not that I was afraid to die. I was afraid of

dying without accomplishing something truly

meaningful.” The next few months, living with

the knowledge that I could die at a moment’s

notice, I began to search for a purpose worth

living for...

BOLDNESS“On August 16, 2013, I was asked to fire a couple of my juniors, without any justification whatsoever. The bosses wanted to create a sense of fear of recession since that was exactly the mood at the Fremont California headquarters so that no one asks for a salary review. I found myself at a point where I didn’t feel I would be learning something through dumbly executing management orders and resigned and Left.” Project Rangamaati was born in 2013.

I see rangamaati evolving over time taking new paths ,creating new responsibilities and forcing us along to learn and evolve in the due course.

REALIZATION

“I travelled the length and breadth of Bengal in search of more bauls, fakirs, and their music. They fed me, sometimes even going hungry themselves to ensure their guest didn’t suffer. During these sojourns, I discovered village after village of potters, weavers, wood carvers, tribal groups working with Dokra and so on. I witnessed skilled craftsmen starving because the market didn’t appreciate their extraordinary skill. I saw artisans being exploited and heckled to death by middlemen.”

“The biggest challenge for me was to get the artisans to trust me. Greedy middlemen have been swindling them for years. How would they know I was any different?” Now that they are on board with his vision, t can ogether we conquer the next set of problems with more ease.Rangamaati has over three Years built a small, but steadily growing, dedicated customer base around the world. We regularly ship Bengal Artisan made Handicrafts & Handloom products to USA, Russia, France and a handful of other countries as well as to regions across the nation. The Russian ambassador to India, Alexander M. Kadakin recently purchased an exclusively commissioned Dokra Goddess Laxmi...Bengal Artisan & Art are finding place in Global Living Room …..

rangamaatiAlthough My Soul had found the cause it was seeking, I, like most of others, was apprehensive about giving up a well-paying job and leap into the financial insecurities of starting up Social Enterprise. I have a wife and a small son to take care of. But one day something happened and there was a conflict of Principles.. I resigned on the spot. ....

I LONGED for freedom ..my spirit wanted to excel ,grow through learning and around one day around 2:30AM as I completed the payment for the Book that I purchased online a thought Clicked !...why Not I take the handicrafts and handlooms of Bengal which I experienced and watched being crafted to Global handicrafts and handloom loving community through eCommerce?

rangamaati is an attempt to revive the handicrafts & handlooms of Bengal,India through providing an ecommerce platform to the artisans to sale their product globally.Named it rangamaati so it reminds me of the roots, people, the compassion of the artisans villagers and the wandering Minstrels ..the bauls who gave me a second Life...a life of self respect filled with happiness of learning contributing and moving ahead as a whole.

Plans on Working and Scaling our Project

What has been the best part about starting up?

I would say Discovering Myself and the possibilities left Unexplored which I could have never discovered under the umbrella of comfort ..its like letting the Genie out of the Bottle..Freedom to Think out of the Box and all crazy ideas without the slightest chance of being ridiculed, questioned or being put on hold..but Freedom is expensive...Rangamaati gave Me clarity of thoughts and a clear Mind where in Not only could I see the Objectives of my Life Clearer but also at personal level I was able to review the relationships ,feelings and emotions involved. I love interaction.I am talking to artisans,b2c portal heads,Fresh Minds,IIT ians ,New entrepreneurs, end users, artlovers across Globe and best of all a lot of Non believers with a typical Question Mark on their face “ well do You really believe you could contribute towards revival of “ THESE DEAD ARTWORK” ?as they inspired me the most ...every time I spoke to them and debated my way Out....it was less of sanjay and more of rangamaati...personification to highest level.rangamaati has been recognised as a Startup, invariably aligned to UN 2030 sustainable development goals promoting sustained, inclusive & sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all

We have plans to unite communities on basis of Artwork as practised over the location where the artform took birth, flourished and sadly declining...so we need work as a team if we have to change the living & socio-economic conditions for the kaarigaars of Bengal,India...we have plans to build small clusters headed by an experienced kaarigaars among the group of kaarigaars and bring a touch of modern designs and create utility based artwork and as far as handlooms concerned new designs ,more Eco friendly fabrics is the new thought to work upon towards mass acceptance of the handicrafts & handloom thus paving path towards revival of these artworks.Diversification of artwork over to different medium is the only way we could compete with Machine made cheap handicrafts decor and synthetic fabrics...we plan to involve the artisan in the R&D and trying out possibilities ...just like any experiment it involves a lot of cost ...unfortunately though we have the plans and thoughts in the pipeline yet execution could only be possible with in flow of cash and funds..

An attempt towards revival of Bengal's Handicrafts & Handloom
