JOURN ALI NG Journaling is a great way to get things out... If you don't feel like journaling about your day, here are some journal topics that are interesting.....after you write about them, if you can, try them! (do what you can or just pick one) April 6: What is your favorite style of music to listen to? Country music? Rap? Alternative? Hip-hop? Classical? World beat? Write about why you listen to the music you do and why it's your favorite. April 7: Write about what being healthy means to you. What do you do to stay healthy? Do you exercise regularly? Eat healthy foods? Do something for others? What could you do differently that would make you healthier? April 8: To “meditate” means to think deeply, to contemplate in one's mind, to ponder or reflect. Meditating is different from daydreaming. Its purpose is usually personal growth and solemn reflection on oneself. Do you ever meditate? What kinds of things do you reflect upon? If you don't meditate, why do you think some people do? What would be some good things to think deeply about? April 9: Violence is a destructive force in society. Do you have any ideas for stopping violence? What do you think would be a good way for schools to teach nonviolence? (email your school counselor your ideas!)

Social Emotional Learning  ( While you watch TV shows and Movies )

While it’s important not to spend all day in front of the TV or a tablet or  phone, a little screen time isn’t bad AND you can do some social  emotional learning while you watch together! Here are some questions  you can talk about:

★ Did any of the  characters get really  upset?

★ What did they do  to take care of or cope  with their feelings?

★ Which characters were friends? How did  they show friendship to each other?   ★ Did the characters change at all during it?

How? Why do you think the change  happened?   ★ What would you do differently if

you were one of the characters?

Scheduling & Time Management

1. While we are working at home, stick to a schedule that mirrors your

child’s schedule at school

2. GIve your child choice in completing activities

3. Allow your child to learn about things about things that he/she/they

is interested in

4. Teach kids how to do life skills like cooking, cleaning, and

maintenance & connect them with academic skills

5. Give your child time to be creative...have them do a craft, STEM

project, or create their their own game

6. Make learning fun by turning practice into a game (use trashcan &

paper ball, to create a basketball hoop that they can shoot on if they

get questions correct

7. If they need some peace & quiet, dim the lights & have have

students read or complete a directed drawing

★ Above anything else, remember that you were your child’s first

teacher! You can do this!
