In Partial Fulfillment Of Dual System Program October 2009

The Purpose of Dual System Program is to teach students with skills both in school and in real working situation. Dealing with learning in the real working situation, students must do 3 Month-Job Training (JT). Job Training is one of the best training methods given to Vocational School Students. Job Training is a very usefyl method userd for broadening student’s skills and for practising the knowledge which is learned in school directly at the employee’s worksite (the real working situation).

I did my 3 Month Job Training as a reception staff in City Hotel Surabaya. CITY HOTEL SURABAYA is one of the third-star-hotels in Surabaya. It was established in 1991. The hotel support tourism industry in East Java, especially Surabaya. It is located in Jalan Sunandar Proyosudarmo Raya 17-19 Surabaya.

Being a reception staff, in general, I leraned how to deal with visitors and deal with inquiries on the phone as well as face to face. I practised to handle reservation and confirmation. I also learned to do general administrative and clerical support, prerpared documents (reservation form, voucher, etc) filled in the form, received and sorted mail and deliveries, accepte and sent faxes as well.

I also learned how to build a good comunication with hotel customers which were various in characater and nationalities. Here, I did practise to speak in English. I learned that communication skill, especially the ability to speak English well is important in giving services to tourist from abroad. I also learned that in handling the hotel customers, being polite and warm were a must in every situation and conditions. Being neat in doing the tasks as well as in the way I dress were also important points to learn during the training program.

During my training, the Supervisor often watched and directed me when I was doing the tasks. Sometimes the supervisoer made some adjusments or corrections if what I did was not right so that later on I had to be able to do it correctly.

I was excited to be the part of CITY HOTEL SURABAYA. The situation of working in the hotel was very comfortable. All the employees of CITY HOTEL are very loyal, friendly, discipline,

Page 2: soal inggris

and very cooperative. They also have competence in their own field. These were good points that I also learned during the training program.

In conclusion, the Job Training Program in CITY HOTEL SURABAYA has given me a lot of knowledge and expericence. It has given me a lot opportunites to practise immediately what I have learned in school in the real working situation. By doing the training program I immediately got feedback especially from the supervisor so that I can improved my skills and competencies. The Job Training Program has also helped me to be able to maintain proper attitude not only for doing the job but also for getting along and building good working situation with other hotel staffs, I hope that all of my experiences help me to be well prepared for my future career.
