Happy Holidays!!! It’s time for the most festive time of year. What better reason do you have to stay healthy than to enjoy the festivities? Most of us get pre-occu-pied with parties, traveling, and shopping and begin spending less time taking care of ourselves. Don’t be a statistic of the New Year gym rush and keep up your program now. Outlined below are some ideas to help make the most out of your time for maximum results. For the Ladies…Burn Fat
Try for a minimum of medium to high intensity fat burning cardio 4-5 times a week for 25 minutes. Elliptical trainer, stair stepper and treadmill are all great choices. If you gym offers classes, Spin and kickboxing will offer you some seri-ous calorie burning.Get Toned
Sorry…lifting weights is not just for guys! Building tone muscle burns fat and shapes our body.
2-3 workouts a week consisting of a full body workout with weights
will do the trick. Keep your weight at a medium resistance with an aver-
age of 2 to 3 sets and 20 rep-etitions per exercise.
For the Fellows…
Look Lean.- Muscle looks great but not if it is covered with fat. Aerobic activity along with a clean diet will achieve a more athletic and lean look. Aim
for low to medium intensity cardio 3-4 times a week for 30
to 45 minutes. Try walking the treadmill at a 10% incline with a
3.0 mph speed.Build Muscle
Split It up. Pick a different muscle group to work each day. This will allow for enough stimulation to the muscle to induce growth and strength. A four day split with about 4 exercises per body part with 3-4 sets of 8-15 repetitions should do the trick.
Day 1: Legs, Abs; Day 2: Chest, Biceps; Day 3: Back, Triceps; Day 4: Shoulders, Abs
Holiday time is surrounded with friends, family, celebration and TEMPTATION. None of us want a few weeks of holi-day fun to ruin months spent exercising and watching what we eat. Before your next holiday party or get together have a strategy planned. Eat, drink and be merry….but be sensible and you won’t be regretting it come January 2010.
1. No skipping meals. Eat normally on the day of a party. “People who skip meals to save up calories tend to over-eat everything in sight once they get there,” says Katherine Tallmadge, MA, RD, author of Diet Simple.
2. Cut back the trimmings. Shave calories, go easy when adding nuts, cheese, cream sauces, gravy, butter, and whipped cream -- additions that don’t add much to the meal, but can add plenty to your waistline. Try leaving your party satisfied not stuffed.
3. Chew gum. When you don’t want to eat, pop a piece of sugarless gum into your mouth. Not only does this work well when you are cooking but also to keep you from diving into a buffet of food.
4. Smart appetizers. Skip the fried options and reach for fresh veggies and fruit to munch on. Go easy on the dips and opt for salsa as a delicious alterna-tive for vegetables.
5. Waistline friendly drinks. For most people alcohol is as big of a party of the holiday season as food is. Be re-sponsible with your consumption and not add pounds with these suggestions; Rum and Diet Coke, Vodka and Crystal Light, Cosmos and Mojitos, Light Beer and Red Wine.

America has become a technology-driven soci-ety. We use it for work,
play, communication, and even in our relationships. However, it seems that technology is becoming more and more of a threat to couples today. How many times have we heard the sayings “she keeps check-ing all my text messages,” or “he is constantly keeping tabs on my Face-book?” The most commonly used so-lutions to this problem are deleting your Facebook or Myspace accounts, deleting all text messages, or hiding things from their partner in general. This does not solve anything. In fact, it usually causes further suspicions.
Trust is the real issue at hand. When people don’t trust their significant other, they tend to look for things that support their theory. This includes checking call logs, text messages, internet accounts, and so forth. They will take any little thing and turn it into something that fits their suspi-cion. What they don’t realize is that the angrier they get, and the more they accuse, the further their partner will be driven away. The other per-son will start purposefully keeping
a distance from them, which gives the distrustful partner even more to worry about. This psychological phenomenon is called the self-ful-filling prophecy. This occurs when a person worries so much that some-thing bad will happen, and it even-tually does, causing them to with-draw. Their greatest fears become a reality, even though they may not actually be true.
If this is something that is occur-ring in your relationship, don’t try to solve it by getting rid of the sur-face material. Dig deeper; find out what is causing the lack of trust with your partner, and communicate with them. Don’t blame Facebook, Mys-pace, or your cell phone. It’s a prob-lem of trust and needs to be dealt with at the root. You can’t let your fear of losing someone become a self-fulfilling prophecy, because the mind is a powerful thing and it can happen!

It has been said that the first kiss can set the tone for an entire relationship. In fact, being a good kisser is one of the essential requirements for having a good physi-cal relationship. A kiss could mean anything from emo-tional affection, to passionate desire. What you are able to convey to your partner will depend upon the way you kiss him/her.
First things first, make sure that you’re practicing good hygiene. Be aware of what you have eaten that day, or if you have smoked any cigarettes, this could also effect your breath. No one wants to kiss someone with a smelly mouth. If you’re a lover of onions, or just can’t wait to have a puff of that Marlboro, keep mints or gum with you.
Ease into your kiss, especially if it is the first one. Give the other person time to feel completely at ease; the last thing you want to do is scare your partner. Try different types of kisses; there is more than one kind of kiss. Make sure that you are being attentive the other person’s non-verbal responses. Lastly, be confident. We all get nervous…..just go with the flow! Different Kiss TypesMany people believe that there are only two types, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The realm of the kiss is very important. Below is a list you should familiarize your-self with. Try each of them at least once!
Butterfly Kiss - Bring your face very close to that of your partner, then, flutter your eyelashes rapidly on the side of their face.
Cheek Kiss - One of the friendliest kisses. It is usually adopted on the first date. Gently brush you lips across your partner’s cheek.
Earlobe Kiss - Involves lightly kissing and sucking the earlobe of the partner. Since you are so close to the ear, don’t make too loud of noises.
Eskimo Kiss - Gently rub your nose with that of your partner.
Eye Kiss - As the name suggests, implies giving a tender kiss on the closed eyes of the partner.
Forehead Kiss - Meant to be the friendliest kiss. You sim-ply brush your lips across your partner’s forehead.
Freeze Kiss - Also known as Melt Kiss, is the one in which you put an ice cube into your mouth and kiss your partner, while passing the cube to his/her mouth with your tongue.
French Kiss - The most sensual kiss amongst all. At times called the Soul Kiss, it involves the tongue along with the lips.
In Hand Kiss - Raise your partner’s hand to your lips and brush them lightly across the tip of the hand.
Neck Nibble Kiss – Nibble your way up and down your partner’s neck. Finally, place a gentle kiss on his/her lips.
While doing the Shoulder Kiss, come from behind your partner, give a slight hug and then, kiss the top of his/her shoulder.
Try these techniques and take my advice, and you’ll be a great kisser for life.

Q. I am planning on opening an IRA. Which would be better, and what is the difference between an IRA and a ROTH? … Courtney, 28, The Village
A. Courtney, the first thing to realize is that both are a type of IRA (Individual Retirement Accounts), and the difference between the two is the way the money you put in and pull out of the accounts is treated when it comes to taxation.
As a retirement account, Roth IRAs dif-fer from regular IRAs in some important ways.
• There is an income limit on the Roth IRA. If you make too much money, you can’t contribute to a Roth. The limits start if your income is over $95,000 and you’re single, or over $150,000 if you’re married and filing a joint tax return, how-ever as early as 2010 this will change.
• The money in your Roth IRA grows tax-free (your using money you already paid taxes on) as opposed to
tax-deferred (you would pay taxes when you take the money later) in the traditional IRA. • As long as you keep your money in a Roth for at least five years and when you reach at least age 59 and 1/2, you can take the money out whenever and however you want, with no tax conse-quences.• There is no age limit with the Roth IRA. You can make contributions no matter how old you get and you are never required by IRS to take money out. With a regular IRA, you have to stop making contributions in the year in which you hit age 70-1/2 and you have to start taking required amounts then as well.
Besides these basics, there are other fac-tors to consider when choosing which IRA is right for you. Your financial advisor and tax advisor can assist you further in determining which would best meet your needs.

Your karma is becom-ing ripe now, and this will be evident around the 25th when the Moon indicates that you will make contact with powerful elements of your past. Some event will happen at this time which exposes hidden memories, mys-teries, or things long forgotten. These recollections will help piece together the jigsaw of your life. How often have you heard it said, or have you yourself said, “What’s life all about?” This time the favourable influence of the planets will give you a peak into the true answers to these questions.
Educational pursuits, which you would think would be winding down at the close of the year, will actually become
stimulated after the 7th due to Mercury and Pluto arousing your
curiosity. You’re interested to know more about people, even those you’ve known for a long time. They could start to be a little concerned about your sud-den interest in the mystery of their past, their interests, and other deeper per-sonality traits.
This is the final chapter of 2009 and with Mars and Jupiter doing their thing in the heavens. You will be thinking BIG – re-ally big! Perhaps biting off so much that your jaws will get tired from chewing. In the first week, you must pace yourself and be careful not to promise more than you can deliver. You will be excited, the centre of attention, and will want to help everyone, friends and strangers alike. But keep your diary with you everywhere you go, as you may not be aware just how much you’re commit-ting to this month.
The full Moon on the 2nd suggests that you should take time out with the one you love, get away from it all, and
reconnect with each other without the distractions of day-
to-day life. A brief escape together would be ideal, if you can manage it, especially with Christmas on your doorstep. Stabi-lising your personal relationships will be high on your agenda in the last month of the year. Around the 4th, when Ve-nus forms favourable aspects with Sat-urn, you’ll be interested in making sure that your future security emotionally is vouchsafed.
Mars and Jupiter op-pose each other this month, so you must continue your dialogue with your partner to make sure your philoso-phies are in harmony with each other. This is of primary im-portance as I mentioned in the out-set of the yearly forecast that this is one of the most notable relationship
cycles in 12 years. You don’t want to blow it Leo! Just because you have a prime opportunity does not mean you will make a better reality. All relationships require hard work, and in this last phase of 2009, you must not let your at-tention to detail slip.
Between the 8th and 13th you have a chance to revise some of your career objec-tives. Talk about your pro-
posed changes with your loved ones before presenting your find-
ings to your employers. It’s best not to do things in secret, as others may have different ideas and you don’t want to be alarming anyone with radical changes out of the blue. From the new Moon of
the 16th up until the 25th this will ensure open and harmonious communications, and relationships should be wonderfully satisfying for the festive season.
As the year draws to a close, Saturn will impact upon the horoscope of most Librans remaining in their Sun sign for at least 2 1/2 years. Important de-cisions will need to be made as you become more serious about your life and in particular your work. Just as a snake as sheds its skin, you too will start to find that certain aspects of your life now need to be jettisoned for you to be successful. Between the 3rd and the 9th, do what needs to be done and don’t feel obliged to explain the ins and outs of your own personal process. It really isn’t anyone else’s business.
Some decisions this year will be difficult because you realize that you can’t afford to spend any fur-
ther time with those who are not as passionate about
life as you. You must be with people who can share your vision, love, and intensity, which are all true Scorpio character traits. Leading up to Christmas, and in particular, around the 22nd, a journey will act as a catalyst in this respect. You will meet someone, perhaps from afar, who can meet these new standards and fulfill your needs.
This month is full of ro-mance, mystery and pos-sibly even intrigue as
Venus enters your zone of secrets. You must look
beyond the superficial elements of character; dig deep to find the true motivation in others. You’re likely to be swept off your feet by someone promis-ing to fill your life with all those things you feel are missing, only to find later that you’ve been hoodwinked, or rather, you’ve invited someone to promise you more than they can actually deliver.
A challenge for the year comes from the reverse motion of Mars at a time when you might be preparing for a wonderful holiday and preparing for fun. Just around the 21st you might dis-cover that you haven’t quite finished off some chore or job, and this could leave you feeling worried, and possibly even anxious. There may be nothing you can do about this, so my sincere suggestion is to sort this out after the holiday, period. Switch your mind off ,and really enjoy the remainder of 2009.
You will be pushing your-self rather hard until the 7th, when Mercury opts to enter a quiet and in-tense phase for a while. This doesn’t mean you won’t continue to be a mixture with lots of people surrounding you, but your mind is likely to be in drawn and you’ll be more conscious of others’ motiva-tion, rather than the superficiality in-volved in partying and clubbing. You are indeed in a spiritual phase, which is continuing the thread of self transfor-mation and a deeper understanding of your involvement with others.
Venus offers you some great luck between the 2nd and the 14th. For those of you hoping to
express the creative side of your personality in work, it can
happen now. Artists, musicians, and those in the performing arts, gener-ally born under Pisces, will find the last month of this year truly uplifting. Nego-tiate a better deal for yourself around the 6th if you are not happy with your manager, your personal trainer, accoun-tant, or others whose serve you. The advice is simple: get rid of them.
November ushered in the start of the Oklahoma State Basketball season.
Coach Travis Ford in his second season with the Cowboys has three returning starters Obi Muonelo, James Anderson and Marshall Mo-ses who finished last season with a 23-12 re-cord.
Sophomore guard Keiton Page will return to the court and will see more playing time throughout the season. The Cowboys also wel-come transfer Junior Matt Pilgrim. Accord-ing to the OSU Web site, Pilgrim, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Hampton University in Virginia. Pilgrim transferred to Kentucky prior to the 2008-09 season and sat out as a redshirt due to NCAA Division I transfer rules. Kentucky changed coaches and Pilgrim’s scholarship was not re-
newed.
Pilgrim comes to the Cow-boys with a waiver from the NCAA allowing him to play with-out having to sit out a n o t h e r s e a s o n , and he has two years of eligibiliy for the C o w -boys.
Coach Ford has a lot of tal-
ent returning this season.
Muonelo, Anderson,
Moses and Page are all
talented and good play
all season from these
young men will be the
key to the Cowboys
playing in March.
The Cowboys were pre-
season ranked 21st in the
Blue Ribbon College Basketball
Yearbook. The Cowboys opened
exhibition play on Nov. 7 and defeated
Central Oklahoma 89-80. They defeated
Dillard on Nov. 10 in their second exhi-
bition game 97-55. They defeated Seattle
on Nov. 14, 86-64 and are undefeated so
far. The Cowboys have yet to break into
the AP or ESPN/USA Today polls; this
will change if their win streak continues.
They begin December play in Tulsa and
have a couple of games at home before
they travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to play in
the Big 12/Pac 10 Hardwood Series. The
Cowboys will be home to play Pacific on
Dec. 29.

Coach Jeff Capel in his fourth year of coaching Sooner basketball, has many talented players this season to fill the void that forward Blake Griffin, the consensus national player of the year, has left behind. The Sooners also said goodbye to Taylor Griffin and Austin Johnson both were starting seniors last season.
The Sporting News named sophomore Willie Warren the Preseason Player of the Year. Last year he averaged 14.6 points a game and 3.1 as-sists per game. Warren will take over the lead-ership role and lead this talented squad this season.
Seniors Ryan Wright and Tony Crocker have a great deal of freshman talent including two Mc-Donald’s All-American players to compliment them this season. Freshman players Andrew Fitzgerald, Tiny Gallon and Tommy Mason-Griffin are already putting up good numbers and seeing a lot of time on the court.
Mason- Griffin is a McDonald’s All- American true point guard. He averaged 22.8 points, 5.3 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game as a high school senior. He appears to be a fast and dynamic player who will be phenomenal on the court.
Tiny Gallon is the other McDonald’s All- American that is not all that “tiny”. The 6 foot 9, 296 pound forward averaged 16 points and 10.3 rebounds and was the nation’s No. 9 over-all recruit by Rivals.com. Tiny will be a major asset to the Sooners on the court.
The University of Oklahoma Basketball team was preseason ranked 17th in the polls.
The Sooners opened exhibition play on
Nov. 3 with a 93-53 victory over Brit-
ish Columbia. They defeated Mount St.
Mary’s 95-71 on Nov.14 and defeated the
University of Louisiana- Monroe 72-61 on
Nov. 17.
The Sooners have home games Dec. 2,
Dec. 6 and Dec. 9. They will travel to
Utah for an early game Dec. 12 and will
play Northern Colorado at home on Dec.
19. They will take on UTEP on Dec. 21 in
Oklahoma City in the All College Classic
and play Gonzaga on Dec. 31 in Spokane,
Washington.

As seasons change, so does our skin, and selecting the right color of founda-tion can be a bit tricky. One of the big-gest mistakes women make when apply-ing make-up is forgetting about our skin’s sensitivity. Knowing your skin type, and being aware of the changes it makes, is essential to creating a primed canvas. A good and consistent skincare regimen will allow foundation to look natural. Washing with the right cleanser and exfoliating on a regular basis will help to prep the skin, and following with a moisturizer will help in the application process.
During the winter months, many of us become dry due to the harsh cold. Choos-ing a foundation with a glycerin or water base will give the skin a more hydrated look. Stay away from powder foundations; they will only settle on dry skin and create a heavy, cakey look. For oilier skin types, the key is to first use a moisturizer with a gel base that creates a matte finish. Oil free foundations are ideal, and my advice is to use a loose, translucent powder with a large brush to set the make-up. Also, it is important to note that our hair follicles, or pores, grow downward. When applying any kind of foundation or powder, going against the grain will smooth big pores and fill them in for a flawless look.
Most of us are outside more during the sum-
mer, and as a result, the melanin in our skin
becomes darker. Therefore, when winter is
approaching, it is a good time to change the
color of foundation to prevent the “face mask”
look. A good rule to follow is to test the founda-
tion at the jaw line to make sure it matches the
rest of your skin. Second, be aware that most
department stores have fluorescent lighting,
and the way the color appears inside may be
completely different than the way it will look in
natural lighting. Sunlight is always best to help
determine whether the color is consistent with
your skin tone or not.
Once the skin is primed, and the right color
and coverage has been chosen, try a con-
cealer that is a shade lighter under the eyes.
This will highlight the eyes, and cover any dark
circles you may have. Using a bronzer will help
add some color to your face. Brush down from
the forehead, as if the sun were naturally hitting
your face and cheeks. This is a good technique
to warm you up until summer comes again!

Whether we want them to be or not, the Holidays are upon us once again. Christmas, as usual, is creeping its way into Thanksgiving’s calendar terri-tory. You’re going to hear “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls” over and over, virtually everywhere you go for the next month or so. Since this is the way things are, and there’s no way to escape them until December 26, you may start thinking about which movies go best with a tall glass of eggnog. Here are my holiday favorites that keep me in the Christmas Spirit amidst all the chaos surrounding the holiday.
1. A Christmas StoryCliché, I know, but you have to admit that there was a time when all you wanted was a Red Ryder BB-Gun, and we all wanted to watch Ralphie beat up that kid with the braces.
2. It’s a Wonderful LifeIf you want to create memories with your girl or guy on a quiet December night, this one will make you laugh, then cry, then laugh again, and find yourselves hugging afterwards.
3. Eight Crazy NightsI threw this one on the list because it never, ever stops mak-ing me laugh.
4. Polar ExpressEveryone knows that a Christmas train showing up outside your house at night would be fantastic in every way imaginable.
5. National Lampoon’s Christmas VacationGriswold’s + Christmas lights = tears of pure Christmas joy
When we think about Christmas, several things come to mind: Baby Jesus, presents, Christmas trees, and, of course, Santa Claus. The hat, the beard, and the belly all make up one of Christmas’ biggest celebrities. We
know what Santa’s job is, and we know what he looks like. The legend behind Santa Claus, however, is a lesser known story.
The tale begins almost 2,000 years ago, back nearly to the time of Christ. In a town called Patara, there lived a man by the name of Nicolas. Nicolas had a big heart, so big, that he became a monk and devoted him-self to God and his religion. He was also a man who loved people. Nicolas was born into wealth, and the stories soon spread that he was a man with a very generous nature as well. Nicolas desired to aid those in need, and was quick to give money to the poor, the sick, and anyone he felt could use a little help.
Nicolas became known as the protector of all children when he rescued three young sisters from being sold into slavery. Their father was desper-ately in need of money, and had no other way to obtain it, so he had decided to put his girls up for purchase. Just in the nick of time, Nicolas offered their father the money he needed, and the girls went free. This is just one of the many stories of the kindness of Nick. It is no surprise that he became “Saint Nicolas” after his death.
The giving nature of Saint Nick melds with the giv-ing nature of God, who gave us the baby Jesus so many years ago. This combination makes for the perfect holiday: Christmas. So celebrate and eat, spend time with friends and family, but remember the real reason for the season
