Autumn colours are all around and winter is almost here. I’m wondering how the snow will affect us in the week ahead. So much of our daily lives is shaped by seasons. The Easter Season has ended and we are celebrating the birthday of the Church in the great season of Pentecost. In school this week we will be reflecting on how the gift of the Holy Spirit of Jesus works in us and shapes our daily lives. It is also a good opportunity to say a special prayer for our Bishop Colin Campbell whose motto is “In the Spirit.” The Sacred Heart School community is a community that likes to celebrate. Over the next two weeks we look forward to our Parents and Friends Social/Annual General Meeting on Thursday 4 th June and Family Mass at Holy Name Church on Sunday 7 th June. Details are in this newsletter and on our school website. We also welcome Monica Whitham from Otago University College of Education who is working with us in Ruma Tui on a three week practicum beginning today. Have a great week. Prayer for Pentecost

Come, O Holy Spirit of God, Come to renew the face of the earth. Let us go into the whole world and proclaim the

Gospel, to every creature, everywhere, to the ends of the earth.

Give us the grace to feed the hungry, to visit the imprisoned, to care for the sick and struggling, to love each other, as you

shape us to become the Body of Christ. Amen.

Sacred Heart is a School with a Dominican Charism This means that we follow the way of Saint Dominic.

Through his example we learn to be followers of Jesus. Our school values of Truth, Respect, Justice and Humanity also help us to live

a fully Christian life.

Being Dominican is to love to learn and always curious to know more. Being prayerful. We sit quietly, mind and body still, so as to gather the peace of God within. Being just and fair to all. We never forget those who do not have the same rights as us. Being yourself – an individual with your own

gifts and talents. Being a protector of the environment and valuing all created things.

Being a veritas person, honest with ourselves and others. A veritas person is a compassionate person.

Respect  “Do  to  others  as  you  would  have  them

do  to  you.”        Luke  6:31

Justice    “Hear  what  the  Lord  asks  of  you,    to  live  justly,  to  love  tenderly,  and    to  walk  humbly  with  your  God”

Micah  6:8

Truth

“You  will  know  the  truth,  and  the  truth  will  set  you  free.”

John  14:6

   Humanity

“The  fruit  of  the  Spirit  is  love,  joy,

peace,  patience,  kindness,  goodness,  faithfulness,  gentleness,  self  control.
