Some inmates who are serving county time (not assigned to serve their sentence in a state prison facility) are part of a land-scaping and graffiti removal crew. They operate under the direction and supervi-sion of LVMPD Detention Services Bureau personnel. They patrol specific areas which are routinely vandal-ized with graffiti and remove the graffiti by paint-ing over it. This restores the vandalized area to it’s original condition prior to being vandalized.

It is an effective utilization of available resources and it also allows the inmates to provide a needed service to the community.

The SNGC Sincerely Thanks LVMPD Sgt.

Fred Meyer and LVMPD Officer

Bill Miller for their implementation of the Inmate

Graffiti Abatement Program.

Graffiti abatement is one of the most important elements of Southern Nevada’s comprehensive plan to manage and control graffiti proliferation. Clark County, Las Vegas, NDOT, and other public agencies are greatly aided by programs like the Inmate Work Program. This program takes a ready resource (inmate labor) and provides a valuable service to the community.

As a result of the success of this program it may be expanded in the near future with an additional crew going to work in the community. This would be a tremendous benefit in the fight against graffiti and it is our hope that the program is expanded.

FACT: In June 2010 more than 200 locations of Graffiti Vandalism in Southern Nevada were Abated
