Overview

Snapchat is an application which can be used on iOS and Android mobile devices.

It allows you to send and receive photos and videos to your phone between you and your contacts.

Any image/video you send or receive will only be visible for up to ten seconds before it self-deletes.

How to download and install Snapchat

1. Go to the App store if using an iOS device OR go to the Google Playstore

if using an Android device.

2. Type in ‘Snapchat’ in the search bar

3. A list of results will appear. Click the one labelled ‘Snapchat’ and choose “Install App.”

4. This will prompt the application to automatically download to your device.

5. Once downloaded the app will appear on your home screen. Snapchat will appear with your other apps.

6. When you press the Snapchat icon you will be prompted to ‘LOGIN’ or ‘SIGN UP’. Click ‘SIGN UP’ if you do not already have an account and to create one.

7. To sign up, Snapchat will ask you for,

7.1. Your email address

7.2. A password

7.3. Your birthday

8. You must then create a unique username which your friends can identify as you on Snapchat.

9. Allow Snapchat permission to access your phone contacts to see which of your friends is using Snapchat. You can then add friends to your Snapchat.

How to add friends on Snapchat

1. Tap the My Friends icon on the lower right corner of the photo screen.

2. Tap the Add Friends icon on the upper right corner

To find a friend:

2.1. Tap the magnifying glass icon and type in their Snapchat

username. Add them by tapping the icon next to their username.

To add a friend who added you:

2.2. Users who add you will appear right on the Add Friends Page. Simply

tap the icon that appears next to their username to add them.

How to send photos and videos on Snapchat

This section will show you how to take and send a Snapchat photo or video. It will display and explain the main icons used to take a photo or video.

1. Capture a photo or video

There will be a large circle in the bottom of your screen, tap to take a photo and hold to take a video.

2. Customise your photo or video:

2.1. Set the timer . Click to adjust time – you can choose for the photo to display for one second to ten seconds.

2.2. Sketch/Write personal message (Not available for video). Click to choose colour to sketch

2.3. Tap the centre of the page to add a caption on Android, or press the ‘tap to add caption’ bar on iOS devices.

3. Send a photo or video.

3.1. Press the send button .

3.2. Choose which contacts to send your photo or video to.

3.3. Press the send button again .

How to view Snapchat messages

1. Tap the icon on the bottom right to get to your home screen to check for messages.

2. Press and hold any conversations to view a photo or video. This will start the timer.

How to edit your Snapchat settings

1. Press the settings icon at the bottom of left of the photo screen.

2. In settings you can,

2.1. Change your notification settings.

2.2. Adjust your privacy settings, ie. who see can your Snapchat.

2.3. Clear all the photos and videos you’ve received.

How to make and view Snapchat stories

You can save images or videos you take (snaps) to be part of your Snapchat “story.”

In your story, your snaps live for 24 hours before disappearing. Your friends can view all snaps you put in your story. You can view your friends’ stories too.

Make a story

1. Take a picture or video on the photo page.

2. Tap the Stories icon on the lower middle of the screen. On the message that appears, tap Add to add the snap to your story.

View your friends’ stories

1. Go to the My Friends page (tap the My Friends icon on the lower right corner of the photo screen).

2. Under Recent Updates, tap and hold any friend’s name to begin their story.

3. To skip to the next snap, keep holding your finger on the screen and tap the screen with another finger.
