A warm hello to everyone who receives this newsletter. It's hard to believe we are already halfway through 2011 and winter is in full swing, although there's not alot of snow in the South Island yet. It's been a hectic 6 months with a lot happening in both countries, as we get through the disasters we were hit with in the earlier part of the year. We are starting to see good sales coming through and the team continues to grow as more and more builders see the value and benefits of joining our brand. Although there is going to be a lot of work coming up in the next few years, builders are seeing the need to have systems and processes in place and a brand behind them in order to keep a handle on things and stay organised and professional. The market has been really tough in the building industry over the last couple of years, with so many doom and www.smith-sons.com Once again, the Smithy Telegraph brings you all the latest news that is happening in Smith & Sons, Australia and New Zealand’s most exciting renovation company! gloom stories out there, but although it’s been hard, it’s much easier toughing it out with a group of people all on the same team. New Design Centre...

Peter and Annie from Coorparoo have hit the ground running and have set up up a neat little design centre on Camp Rd in Brisbane which is quite a busy road. Their office is set up in a small shopping centre with about 6 shops, including a small cafe, video shop and pizza shop. Peter’s only comment to Jeff was “How do I stop people coming in?? I’m getting too many walk in’s! Why didnt I get into a design center sooner!” So well done Peter and Annie for taking this vital step in your business.

Welcome aboard to Gerald Cresswell and Vinay Gandhi from Capalaba in Brisbane! Gerald and Vinay only met a couple of months ago, and have since formed a partnership to run the franchise - as Gerald has many years of business experience but does not have a builders licence, and Vinay has the builders licence but wanted to partner with someone who had a handle on the building industry in Australia, as he has only recently moved over from NZ. So the partnership was formed and they have already found a shop to transform into a design centre. Good work guys.

New Franchise Owners...

Rowan and Jodie Turton from Townsville are Smith & Sons first representatives in North Queensland and it is great to have them on board! Both are Townsville born and bred and Rowan has been building there for some years. They have two children and in true North QLD style Rowan enjoys his fishing. So Corporate Office will be looking to head north at some stage and catch some Barra with Rowan!

Welcome to Steve and Kathryn Hicks, who have joined the Smith & Sons team in Wellington! They have been married for 6 years and have 2 beautiful girls Samantha and Hayley.Steve began building in Wellington in 2001, and what he likes most about renovations is using modern technology in older homes and making them transform into comfortable homes of today.

Benny and Joss are currently doing training with Steve Hicks with Di in Tauranga and look forward to getting stuck into it when the return to Oamaru.

Auckland Master Meeting...

Auckland was the city of choice for June’s Master Meeting. All the masters headed over for a full agenda and after that stayed the night to attend the NZ national franchise meeting.

NZ National Franchise Meeting...

The NZ National Franchise Meeting was held on the 1st of July and was a huge success. Held at the Novotel Airport Hotel, all the Masters from both Australia and NZ were in attendance, and the day went very well. After a huge day, some headed over to the airport to grab a quick feed of Maccas late that night!

QLD Franchise Meeting...

All the crew from Queensland got together recently for their quarterly franchise meeting. As the meeting was held at the Stegbar Window Plant, the whole team got a tour to see how all the windows and shower screens were manufactured. Afterwards, a nice meal at the Normanby Hotel (official hotel of the QLD REDS!!) topped things off quite well!

Charity Golf Day...

Corey and the boys from QLD attended a charity golf day recently sponsoring a local charity - Give me 5 for Kids. There was some golfing, and some hacking but the boys came 3rd overall for a good result!

That’s the way we roll!
