Translation InterfaceThink of the Translation Interface as your translation workspace: This is where you enter translations and also get access to a number of features and tools that help you work faster and better. The Translation Interface is divided into two sections: Context and Workspace.
Version 1.0 - November 2014 | 11
Context
Context views vary depending on how the project is set up:
• Web context: Smartling displays the site you are translating ; allowing you to see your translated strings as your are typing them.
• Image context: Smartling displays a screenshot of the app, site, or document you are working on. Although you cannot see your translation in context, the string you are working on are highlighted and can be used as visual reference.
• No context: When no context is provided you can the see the source and target language side-by-side. In those cases, consider using the code view and character count as a reference.

Segments & Snippets
Smartling parses content into small, discreet entities. It makes it easier to re-order a translation whether for formatting or linguistics reasons:
• Strings: strings are extracted from the captured content based on paragraph markers found in a file.
• Segments: strings are parsed into segments by end of sentence markers, i.e. periods, semicolons, interrogation points.
• Snippets: segments are divided into snippets based on formatting, e.g. bold, italic, hyperlinks, etc.
In the Translation Interface segments and/or snippets are translated individually and can be re-ordered depending on the requirements of the target language.
Drag and drop target fields to re-order your snippets
Use the code view to see which snippet you are re-ordering
See your changes in the contextual view

Translate/Edit/Reject/SubmitDepending on the workflow of step you have been assigned to, you’ll have the option to translate source content, edit or reject an existing translation, or submit a string in translation to the next step of the workflow.
Version 1.0 - November 2014 | 15
Submit, edit, or reject
If you are assigned to do a translation, once you are finished translating you’ll need to Submit translated strings to the next step of the workflow.
When assigned to Review step you are given the option to: • Submit: The string is moved to the next step of the workflow or to be published if you
are assigned to a final step • Edit: Click Edit to open the Translation Interface, make your changes to the
translation and Save. Once you are done, click Submit to move the string to the next step of the workflow
• Reject: To send a string back to a previous step or to a translation step, select Reject. Depending on how the workflow is set up you might not have access to the Reject Function
Once you Submit or Reject a string it is removed from your queue and cannot be accessed for further edits.
