Small steps make a big difference!
Walk to School Week 201221st to 25th May
One in five cars on the road in the
morning is
doing the school run.
The average walk to school takes about 25-30
minutes, which is half of the recommended daily
amount of moderate physical activity for
children.
Girls should try to take 12,000 steps a day and
boys 15,000. If you walked from Lands End to
John O’Groats, you would take about 2 million
(2,000,000) steps.
If you walk for 10 minutes you burn off about
15 calories.
There are 270 calories in a mars bar.
If you walk to school once a week, instead of
travelling by car, you’ll save, on average, 30
balloons of carbon dioxide, the gas that is
damaging our planet
