Mission Statement

The mission of the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center is to enhance the quality of life of the Spring Lake Community and surrounding communities by encouraging healthy, active, and balanced lifestyles through participation in recreation and fitness programs, services, and facilities.

Vision Statement

The Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center team is dedicated to delivering excellent service and programs for the benefit of all. We continually strive to be an industry leader in the fields of fitness, aquatics, health and well-being. This is achieved through the provision of an interactive and social learning environment and embracing the needs of our community.

Summer Hours: During the summer the hours will change. Please contact the facility for hours or visit the website at www.slcfac.com

Please note: Throughout the school day the facility will be open to the public. However, it will also be used by the school for physical education classes and sports team practices and work-out sessions. Members must be aware that at times certain rooms and areas will not be available. A schedule will be posted in each area. Please check the availability. The scheduled days and hours of operation are subject to change as circumstances (e.g. maintenance and repairs, weather or other acts of God, and staffing, etc.) may from time to time require.

Membership Annual Dues

All memberships to the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center automatically renew until 30 day written notice is provided to cancel. Payment of dues can be paid annually, semi-annually, quarterly, or monthly. Within 30 days of joining the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center, if you are not completely satisfied with your membership, we will refund any membership dues paid.

Change In Membership Status

Members are required to provide 30-days written notice to change membership status. Upon receipt of this notification, the change status will be processed and dues will be adjusted. A $5 fee will be assessed for any membership change.

Membership Freeze

If you are unable to use the facility due to medical reasons or extended periods out of the area, we will be happy to place your membership on a freeze status. 30-days written notice will be required in order to process a freeze. All freezes may be for a maximum of four months per calendar year. A fee of $10.00 per month must be paid at the time of request.

Terminations

If you wish to terminate your membership, please give the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center a 30-day written notice to cancel your membership. For termination notices given after the 30-day “Satisfaction Guaranteed” time period, unused membership fees are refundable on a pro-rata basis. If the membership is reopened, an initiation fee of $50 will be applied.

Identification

The Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center is a membership organization; therefore, personal information is collected and a photo taken for each member. This information is maintained in our data base. Membership cards are issued and must be scanned every visit to the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center. If you forget your card, you must check in at the reception desk with a staff member before using the facility. Insurance Disclaimer

It is the member’s or participant’s responsibility to provide his or her own accident and health insurance. Neither Spring Lake Public Schools nor the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center provide such coverage for members or other participants.

Guest Policies

• All guests under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age.

• All guests under the age of 18 must present a waiver signed by their parent/guardian. A parent/guardian contact telephone number must also be included, in case of emergency.

• Guests must register, present a photo ID, read and sign a waiver, and pay any drop-in fees at the check-in desk.

• Guests must abide by all facility policies, rules, and codes of conduct.

Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center Expectations

Members and guests can expect…

• A safe, clean, and comfortable facility with well-maintained equipment.

• Staff to be properly trained, knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful.

• Programs and services to be of the highest caliber with quality instruction by competent, enthusiastic, and caring instructors.

• Broken equipment to be repaired within 48 hours to the extent reasonably possible. Specialty parts will be ordered and/or technicians will be contacted within 24 hours of a reported problem.

Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center staff can expect members and guests to…

• Bring their membership cards and adhere to facility rules, policies, and codes of conduct.

• Act in a mature and responsible manner.

• Use appropriate language and treatment toward fellow members, staff, or guests.

• Be respectful of other members and guests, equipment, and the building.

• Report any safety concerns to the staff.

• Use the equipment properly, such as weights, cardio equipment, etc., and ask for assistance if needed.

• Return equipment to its proper location, and keep food and drink in designated areas only. This will help keep the facility clean and safe.

Code of Conduct Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members and guests. To promote safety and comfort for all, members and guests are asked to act appropriately at all times. Members and guests using the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center are expected to behave in a mature and responsible manner and to respect the rights and dignity of others. This Code of Conduct does not permit language or actions that can hurt or frighten another person or that falls below the generally accepted standard of conduct. Specifically, the following activities are prohibited on Spring Lake Community Fitness and

Aquatic Center property:

1. Angry or vulgar language such as swearing, name calling, or shouting.

2. Intentional physical contact with another person in an angry, threatening, or sexual manner.

3. Any comment, conduct, or activity of a sexual nature.

4. Harassment or intimidation by words or gestures, body language, or any other menacing

behavior.

5. Any other conduct that is inappropriate, threatening, or offensive in nature.

6. Wearing inappropriate attire. Inappropriate attire includes, but is not limited to, the following: clothing that references beer, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs; clothing that contains or depicts inappropriate language, symbols or innuendos; clothing that fails to protect the privacy of the person wearing it; and, clothing that is not intended or designed for physical exercise.

7. Theft or behavior that results in the destruction of property.

8. Carrying or concealing weapons and/or objects that may be used as weapons.

9. Using or possessing illegal substances, alcohol, or tobacco. The Spring Lake Community

Fitness and Aquatic Center is a tobacco/smoke-free environment.

10. The use of cell phones with cameras, and the use of any other camera or video recording device, in any bathroom, locker room, changing area, or other place where there may be a reasonable expectation of privacy.

11. Knowingly utilizing the facilities in such a way or at such a time (e.g. with a

communicable illness, disease, or condition, etc.) as may reasonably pose a threat to the health, safety or well-being of other members, guests, or staff.

12. Significant or chronic disregard for Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center policies, rules, codes, or expectations.

Code of Conduct (Cont.)

Members and guests are encouraged to be responsible for their personal comfort and safety. If the behavior of a member or guest is in violation of the Code of Conduct, please ask the individual to stop the offensive behavior and/or report it immediately to a Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center staff person. Members and guests should not hesitate to notify a staff person if assistance is needed. The staff plans to make your visit to the Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center the best part of your day. The Fitness and Aquatic Director, and the Superintendent of Spring Lake Public Schools, will review all reported incidents. The decision to suspend or terminate Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center membership or guest privileges will be made at their discretion if a violation of the Code of Conduct, and/or a violation of other facility rules, policies, or expectations, has occurred.

Denial or Revocation of Membership

The Fitness and Aquatic Director and the Superintendent of Spring Lake Public Schools have the authority to deny or revoke membership and/or guest privileges to any individual if it is determined by them that said individual’s presence and/or behavior, etc. may jeopardize the comfort, safety, health or well-being of others. This includes, but is not limited to, convicted sex offenders, drug traffickers, violators of facility rules, codes, or policies, etc. In the event membership privileges are revoked, the unused portion of the member's fees will be refunded on a pro-rata basis.

General Facility Policies

• Members under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older at all times unless participating in a class or program.

• The Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center is a tobacco/smoke free facility.

• All members must present their membership card or photo ID upon entering the building.

• Membership fees are non-transferable.

• The Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

• Food and beverage items are allowed only in designated areas. Please see staff if you are unclear where those areas are located.

• Weather closings will be announced via television stations–WZZM-13, WWMT-3, WXMI-17, and WOOD-8; radio station –WGHN 92.1 FM; and via email.

• All programs and activities will end at least 15-30 minutes prior to the scheduled closing time, to allow members to vacate the facility in a timely manner.

• Personal music players may only be used with headphones or earplugs.

• There will be a $30.00 charge for any returned check or draft.

• The use of any camera cell phone or of any other camera or video recording device is PROHIBITED in any bathroom, locker room, changing area, or other place where there may be a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Locker Room Policies

• Lockers may be used on a daily basis. Due to the limited number of lockers available, lockers will not be rented.

• Padlocks provided by members or guests must be removed daily. Locks left on lockers overnight will be removed and discarded.

• The Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center is not responsible for personal items left in the locker rooms. It is recommended that valuables not be brought to the facility.

• The Spring Lake Community Fitness and Aquatic Center has 4 family/special needs locker rooms for your convenience.

• Children ages 4 and under may use the opposite gender locker room as long as they are supervised by a responsible adult.

Fitness/Cardio Area Policies

• Members and guests 13 years of age and under are not permitted to use the weight or cardio area unless supervised by parents/guardians or by a personal trainer.

• All members and guests under the age of 18 are required to demonstrate proficiency on how to use the weight and cardio equipment. If unable to demonstrate proficiency, a fitness attendant will be available to demonstrate proper use.

• Appropriate exercise attire must be worn.

• Appropriate shoes must be worn (no open toed shoes or cleats allowed).

• Equipment must be used properly. If it is found that you are not using equipment properly you will be instructed on proper usage and/or denied further use.

Track Rules

• Track direction–Counter-clockwise Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday;

clockwise Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

• Walkers should use the inside lane and runners should use the outside lane.

• No street shoes are allowed–Only non-marking soles are permitted on the track.

• Unsupervised use of the track by children under 13 is prohibited.

Multi-Purpose Room Rules

• Check with the front desk for availability of multi-purpose room and to check out

basketballs.

• No food, drink, glass containers, or gum is allowed in the multi-purpose room.

• No street shoes are allowed on the court.

• Mats are used for classes and programs only–please stay off mats.

• No horseplay is allowed.

Steam Room Rules (Long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.)

• For safety reasons, children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the steam room.

• The elderly, pregnant women, and anyone with a health condition requiring medical care should consult a physician before using the steam room.

• Do not use the steam room alone.

• Use of the steam room while under the influence of alcohol, narcotic drugs, or medicine may lead to serious consequences and is discouraged.

Hot Tub Rules (Water temperature is 104 degrees –

Long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting)

• For safety reasons, children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the hot tub.

• The elderly, pregnant women, and anyone with a health condition requiring medical care should consult a physician before using the hot tub.

• Use of the hot tub while under the influence of alcohol, narcotic drugs, or medicine may lead to serious consequences and is discouraged.

• Do not use the hot tub alone.

Pool Area Policies

State law requires - All individuals must shower before entering the pool.

• Non-swimmers and children under 48″ tall must be accompanied and supervised by a competent adult in the pool area.

• A child who is under 48″ tall and unable to pass a swim test is allowed in the shallow play area of the family pool only if he/she is within arm’s reach of a competent supervising adult or wearing a USCG-approved jacket.

• Lifejackets are not allowed on the slide.

• Members and guests may bring noodles or soft balls, provided they are clean and in good condition. Such objects may not be used as floatation devices by a non-swimmer under 54″ tall. Inner tubes and other inflatables are not allowed.

• Lifejackets must be United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved.

• No running, pushing, dunking, or horseplay is allowed in pools, on pool decks, in locker rooms, or spectator areas.

• No food, drink, glass containers, or gum is allowed in pools, on pool decks, in locker rooms, or spectator areas.

• No street shoes are allowed on pool decks.

• Swim diapers must be worn by swimmers not in control of bodily functions, and must be covered by a bathing suit.

• No diving is allowed in the family pool or shallow areas of the competition pool.

• Only feet first and front dives are allowed from the pool deck of the deep end of the competition pool. Flips and back dives are not allowed from any pool deck.

• Lifeguards may require any swimmer to take and successfully complete a swim test, as a condition of using a pool, if the swimmer is showing signs of trouble in the water.

• Appropriate swimming attire is required. No swimwear with exposed zippers, buckles, rivets, or metal ornamentation will be allowed on the slide.

• Cutoffs and t-shirts may not be worn in the pool.

• No one with open sores or wearing bandages will be allowed in the pool.

• Parts of the pools, hot tub, diving board, or water slide may be opened or closed at the lifeguard’s discretion.

• No hanging on lane lines. Please swim under, rather than over, the lane lines.

• Starting blocks are not for public use.

NO LIFEGUARD MEANS NO SWIMMING

Slide Rules Only one person at a time is permitted on the slide.

Children must be at least 48″ tall to be permitted on the slide.

No lifejackets are allowed on the slide.

Maximum load is 300 pounds.

Swimwear with exposed zippers, buckle, rivets, or metal ornamentation is not permitted.

Riders must

• be feet first and either lying on their back or in a seated position.

• wait for attendant’s signal before starting.

• not run, dive, stand, kneel, rotate, or stop on the slide.

• obey all instructions by the lifeguard and exit quickly.

For safety reasons, pregnant women and individuals with heart conditions or back trouble should not ride the slide.

Diving Board Rules

• No swimming in the diving area is allowed when the diving board is open.

• Only one person allowed on the diving board at all times.

• Only one bounce for each dive is allowed.

• Running, handstands, back dives, inward dives and cartwheels are prohibited.

• Swimmers must dive straight off the board and swim out of the area immediately.

• No one may adjust the fulcrum.

Special Events/Birthday Party Rental Policies

All food and drink must stay in the poolside gathering room.

Attendees must abide by all pool, spa, and other facility rules, policies, and codes.

Little Laker Activity Center

Hours of Operation:

Monday-Saturday 8:30am-11:30am

Monday/Wednesday 4pm-8pm

Tuesday/Thursday 5pm-8pm

• Little Laker Activity Center (LLAC) is closed on all major holidays unless otherwise noted.

• Child must be on the membership in order to use the LLAC.

• A child’s stay at the LLAC is limited to 1-1/2 hours.

• Parents are responsible for– o Remaining on the premises while your child is in the LLAC. o Signing your child in and out on the LLAC checklist. o Changing your child’s diaper or making sure your child has used the bathroom

before dropping off, if necessary. o Feeding your child before he/she enters the LLAC. o Labeling your child’s belongings with first and last names–The LLAC is not

responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. o Leaving your child’s toys at home.

LLAC Health Policy Sick children are not permitted in the LLAC. If your child becomes ill while visiting the LLAC, parents will be notified and asked to check the child out of the LLAC immediately for the safety of the other participants.
