Supplementary Report

The Self Study Report for the third cycle of Assessment and Accreditation by

NAAC was uploaded on our college website www.mesinstitutions.org.in/mesdegree

on 28th

December 2014. The hard copies were submitted to NAAC on 24th

January

2015.

The classes for even semesters of the undergraduate programmes leading to

B.A, B.Sc and B.Com degrees commenced on 2nd

January 2015. The even semester

for UG was for the period 2nd

January 2015 to 30th

April 2015. The classes for even

semesters of the Postgraduate programmes M.Sc (Mathematics) and M.A (Kannada)

were held between February 2015 and May 2015. Even semesters are generally

packed with programmes and activities as it is the latter half of the academic year.

Further, the focus will primarily be on the final year UG and PG students as they will

be passing out of the portals of the college and aspiring to find good placements as

well as admission in Institutes of repute to continue their higher studies. As in the

previous semesters, this semester too was packed with several activities and

programmes conducted by various departments.

The college reopened for the odd semesters on June 26th

2015. The even

semester term closed on 18th

October 2015 with university practical examinations

commencing from 13th

October 2015 and theory examinations from 6th

November

2015 (PG department odd July 2015 – December 2015).

The following is the supplementary report covering the activities of our

institution from January 2015 to December 2015.

CURRICULAR ASPECTS

1.1 Curriculum Planning and Implementation

1.1.6 What are the contributions of the institution and/or its staff members to

the development of the curriculum by the university ? (Number of staff

members/departments represented on the board of studies, student

feedback, teacher feedback, stakeholder feedback provided, specific

suggestions etc.)

Senior faculty members contribute to the development of the curriculum

by being members on the Boards of Studies and sharing their expertise.

The faculty members of various departments were involved in the University

Examinations in several capacities as Chairman BOE, paper setters, practical

examiners and theory paper evaluators.

Educational tours and Industrial visits play a vital role in the learning

experience of a student. It gives them first-hand information and real time

exposure to the world of Industry, business etc. Departments are encouraged

Bannerghatta National Park, Bangalore” also had the same published in

the Life Science International Research Journal IMRF, vol – 2, issue – 2,

(c) On 6th of August 2015 World Organ donation day was observed with a

guest lecture by Col.Dr. Jayant

Risbudon “Bone marrow donation-

awareness”. The program was a grand

success with the registration of about

hundred and fifteen volunteers wanting

to become potential donors. Col. Dr.

Jayant Risbud and his team also

collected the saliva samples of the

volunteers to create a DNA data base.

Institution has NSS and NCC wings, RED Cross Unit through which it does a

lot of socially responsible activities.

The following are the activities to promote institution-neighbourhood-

community network and student engagement.

1. A seven-day annual camp was organised for the NSS volunteers at

Bylakere a Village in Nelamangala taluk in Bangalore rural district during

January 2015. 110 volunteers participated.

Several activities were undertaken and services rendered by the volunteers.

Some of these include

(i) Cleaning the village streets, premises of the school and surroundings of

five temples.

(ii) House to house visits to create awareness about the importance of

(iii) Washing and cleaning the 10 Shiva idols on top of the temple

(iv) The highlight of the camp was the legal awareness campaign conducted

by Ms. Rekha Nayak and Ms. Vidya, faculty members on elating Adhaar

Card, land records, old age pensions, birth, marriage and death Certificates

etc. This was very well received by the villagers.

2. A blood donation camp was organized by NSS on 4th

1. A one-day service camp was organised a Kannur Village which is about 70

2. The NSS volunteers along with the “Eco warrior Corps” of our college and

the students of Maharani‟s Science College and Soundarya College planted

about 650 saplings in Kannur Village on 1st March 2015.

National Cadet Corps (NCC-Boys)

There were several activities conducted by the 1 Karnataka Armoured SQN,

NCC the boys wing of NCC during the period January 2015-October 2015.

1. Republic Day was celebrated with Parade and cultural programme. Mrs

Suhasini Vasanth, wife of Late Col.Vasanth, AC (posthumous) donated a

bust of her husband who was an outstanding NCC cadet of our college.

2. 35 NCC Cadets accompanied by the NCC officer Lt. Arun Kumar and two

other faculty members and two PI staff went on a 4-day cycle expedition

from Bengaluru to K.G.F Kolar covering a distance of 250 km on 4th

, 5th

and 6th

January 2015 spreading the message of cleanliness as part of the

Prime Minister‟s Swach Bharath Abhiyan Programme. The expedition

was flagged off by the Honorable Governor of Karnataka Sri Vaju Bhai

Wala.

2. The department of Zoology has signed a MoU with “M/S ABIVRUD

Health Care Pvt Ltd”, Srirampuram, Bangalore-21 for research related to

Colorectal Cancer under VGST program on 29-6-2015 for a period of 5

The IQAC has identified several repairs and renovation in consultations with

the different departments and sought the permission of the management and

Governing Body for the sanction of funds for these projects on a top priority

basis. The management has sanctioned several of these projects. The notable

recommendations of the IQAC which have been taken up by the management

to upgrade and enhance Infrastructure and learning resources during the year

2014-2015 and were completed during the last six months are listed below.

Three rooms (Room number 11, 30 and 55) have been converted to Audio

visual rooms with LCD projector, Screen and E-podium (with built in

The institution provides training to its staff for effective implementation of the

quality assurance procedures. The IQAC has been actively involved in NAAC

preparations for the past one year. In addition to identifying the infrastructure

needs of the college and overseeing its implementation, several other activities

have been conducted and coordinated by it. These activities are designed to

help create awareness about ensuing NAAC peer team visit among the

different stake holders as well as prepare them for the ensuing visit.

1. IQAC organized the Counselling of students for admission to B.A and

B.Sc. Banners were put up at strategic locations and faculty members of

Humanities, Languages, Biological and Physical sciences were assigned

counselling work. The guidelines for counselling was formulated and

followed. Due to the excellent work done by the faculty members the

number of students admitted to B.Sc and B.A is excellent compared to

other affiliated colleges in the city.

7. A Session on preparation for NAAC peer team visit was organized by

IQAC for all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. Dr. R.C.

Hiremath, Principal, KLE Society’s S. Nijalingappa College who has been

on several peer teams to A &A degree college was invited to give a

presentation on 31st July 2015.

8. The IQAC has prepared a Quality Manual which will serve as a handbook

for all processes in the college. It is hoped to adopt the Manual from the

next academic year.

9. Prof K.M.Raghavendran, IQAC coordinator attended a two day National

Summit on Quality in Education” Attaining Institutional Excellence

through Teacher Empowerment” organised by CII Institute on quality on

22nd

and 23rd

September 2015.

10. Prof K. M. Raghavendran, IQAC coordinator, Dr. Veena Nagaraj, IQAC

member and Dr. J. Vishwanath, NAAC coordinator, attended a two day

NAAC sponsored National Conference on” Quality Initiatives &

Benchmarking in Higher Educational Institutions” organised by Surana

College Bangalore on 3rd

11. The IQAC organised an Interactive workshop to sensitize students on the

impact of “retail Corruption” in association with Janaagraha on 27th

August

2015. The Speakers included (1) Dr. Malathi Das, I.A.S (Retd), Former

Chief Secretary of Government of Karnataka (2) Dr. S.T. Ramesh, I.P.S

(Retd) Former DG & IG of Police of Karnataka, Sri Srikumar, I.P.S (Retd)

Commissioner, (4) Sri. Rajat Shubhro, Senior Associate Jana online(I Paid

a Bribe Initiative) and Mrs Swathi Ramanathan activist Janaagraha. The

programme was very well received by the students and the staff.

12.The IQAC conducted a one day orientation and training programme on

firefighting and use of fire extinguisher for non-teaching support staff of

the college. on 18/11/15.Sri Satyanarayana an alumnus and trained

firefighter and fire warden conducted the training. 25 support staff

members and five faculty enthusiastically participated in the program.

Use of renewable energy:

Plant foliage and organic debris are utilized for the preparation of

bio-fertilizers.

Water harvesting system:

Installation of improved roof water harvesting system.

Water recycling.

e-waste management :

Maintenance of e-waste bins at strategic places.

Separate disposal of e-waste is periodically done.

7.2 Innovations

7.2.1 Give details of innovations introduced during the last four years which

have created a positive impact on the functioning of the college.

Under the initiative of Dr. Leelavathi D of Botany department, 10 students

of B.Sc (CBZ) have adopted plants. The students regularly water the plants,

prune then and take care of them.
