Courtesy of Jo-Ann Stores Skill level 2 Appliquéd Baby Bib For Dog Bib: Supplies: • 12” x 15” piece of green print flannel • 18” x 15” piece of tan cotton fabric for backing • 10” square of HeatnBond fusible web • Approx. 3” square burgundy fabric remnant (for nose) • Approx. 5” square brown felt remnant (for patches) • Small amount of batting For Cat Bib: • 12” x 15” piece of pre- quilted red cotton fabric • 18” x 15” piece of white flannel for backing • 6” square of HeatnBond fusible web • Green felt remnant ( for collar) • 10” of 1/4”- wide green ribbon (for bow) • Brown fabric remnant (for nose) • Two 3/4” white Velcro® coin sets • Two 12” x 15” pieces of thin batting • Black Plaid® Fashion Fabric Paint • Beacon Fabri- Tac® clear- drying fabric glue • Matching thread • Pencil • Sewing machine • Sewing needle • Scissors • Ruler or measuring tape • Iron and pressing cloth Dog Bib Instructions: 1. Enlarge bib pattern 172% and cut out. Using pattern, cut 1 front from green flannel, 1 back from tan cotton and 1 piece of batting. Baste batting to wrong side of bib front. 2. Stitch loop side of Velcro® dot to right side of back piece at neck tab. Stitch hook side of Velcro® coin to right side of front piece at opposite neck tab to correspond. 3. Place front and back with right sides together and stitch a 1/4” seam all around, leaving 3” at center bottom of bib open. Trim fabric close to seam. 4. Turn bib right side out and press. Stitch opening closed. 5. For appliqué, photocopy dog pattern twice, enlarging 205%. Cut dog body from 1 paper pattern and patches from the other. Trace dog pattern pieces onto paper side of fusible web; cut out. 6. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse web to wrong side of tan fabric, cut out dog and remove paper backing. Referring to photo for placement, position dog on bib front, web- side face down, and fuse layers together. 7. Trace patches onto paper side of remaining fusible web piece; cut out. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse web to wrong side of brown felt remnant, cut out patches and remove paper backing. 8. Position patches on dog as shown, web- side face down; fuse layers together. For nose, cut a 1 1/2” circle from burgundy fabric remnant. hand- sew a running stitch around circle, fill with small amount of batting, pull thread to gather and secure. Paint dot for eye. Cat Bib Instructions: 1. Make bib in same manner as dog bib, but using red fabric for front and white flannel for back. 2. For appliqué, photocopy cat pattern twice, enlarging 200%. Cut out cat body from 1 paper pattern and nose and collar from the other. Trace cat onto paper side of fusible web and cut out. 3. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse web to wrong side of white flannel, cut out cat body and remove paper backing. Referring to photo for placement, place cat body on bib front, web- side face down, and fuse layers together. 4. Trace collar pattern onto green felt; cut out. Trace nose pattern onto brown fabric remnant; cut out. Glue collar and nose in place. Tie length of green ribbon into a bow; sew or glue bow to collar. Paint dots for eyes.
