Dear Parishioners, Many thanks to all those who bought and sold tickets for our Parish Raffle. Your participation in our raffle supports our school, religious education program, athletics, and the ministries here at St. Alexander. Following is a list of this year’s winners. Also I would like to thank the Family School Association who sponsored last weeks Howl at the Moon party where the raffle was held. All those who attended seemed like they had a great time as they listened to the music and singing of the Dueling Pianos and had a chance to visit with fellow parishioners. As many of you probably know, our principal for the past eleven years, Mrs. Cathy Biel has decided to retire from St. Alexander, and being an educator at the end of this school year. Mrs. Biel also served as vice principal and taught for many years at St. Alexander previous to her years as principal. She exceled for all these many years serving our school and parish and will truly be missed. We’re not saying good bye now because there’s still several months left in the school year, but I wanted the parish to know this information and will keep you all up to date in our search for a new principal to serve our excellent parish school. God Bless, Father Marty

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
“If you choose you can keep the commandments,” Sirach tells us. God “has set before you fire and water; to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand” (Sirach 15:15, 16). This is a great mystery: God does not control us so completely that we cannot choose our own path. We have certain boundaries, of course, but no one but we can choose our way within those boundaries. In today’s reading from Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus re-minds us of our freedom and our responsibility for our lives. He calls us to look beyond the words of the commandments, all the way to their meaning. Look beyond the adultery to the selfishness that poisons our love. Look beyond the murder to the anger that eats away at our compassion. Look beyond the perjured testimony to the lies and deception that drive our be-havior. Our vocation is to choose life for ourselves, and to choose a path through our part of the world that helps make life possible and more abundant for others as well.

CONFIRMATION 2020 Most Rev. Bishop Robert Casey
The family of St. Alexander hopes and prays that the gift of the Holy Spirit will guide you. May you also continue to develop and deepen your relationship with the Lord and the
Christian community in years to come. Congratulations and God Bless.
CONFIRMATION COMMITMENT Many families will keep a copy of this bulletin, as a reminder of this special day of Confirmation with their child’s name posted. We use this as an opportunity to remind those newly confirmed to use the gifts of the Holy spirit. They are the leaders of society in the not too distant future. The years of high school and college pass quickly. Like the seeds that lie motionless in fertile ground, germinating, cracking open their shell, so too, these next eight years are the years for your faith to germinate and grow. Stay close to Christ. Stay close to your faith. We are united in helping you to be the best version of yourself with the gifts of the Holy Spirit to help you be good leaders of our future. You have received a blessing from God, now be a blessing from God to all whom you meet.

Tim Wilsey will present this tasty program where he will inform us of the many candy companies which originated in Chicago. He will speak on the background of these companies; the many people who were employed and how these candies became part of our Chicago family life.
Light refreshments will be served.

Featured Speaker: Tim Wilsey
WORD OF LIFE “Prayer is the foundation of all that we do in defense of human life. Our efforts—whether educational, pastoral, or legislative—will be less than fully fruitful if we do not change hearts and if we do not ourselves overcome our own spiritual blindness. Only with prayer—prayer that storms the heavens for justice and mercy, prayer that cleanses our hearts and our souls—will the culture of death that surrounds us today be replaced with a culture of life.”

Please Make Your Gift to the 2020 Annual Catholic
Appeal Come, follow
me...and heal our world
This weekend, our parish will be con-ducting the Annual Catholic Appeal in-
pew commitment Weekend. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments. The Annual Catholic Appeal theme, “Come, fol-low me… and heal our world”, was selected to remind us to answer Jesus’ call to follow Him in thought, word and deed by providing the neces-sary contribution to fund ministries and services to share God’s love with others in our parish and archdiocese. Each pledge makes a difference! All parishes communities participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our parishes, schools, and ministries to deliver needed services. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.
