It was a labor camp, and the rules were simple."As long as you can do your work, you are permitted to live. When you become too weak to do your work, then you will be exterminated." Rosenberg watched as his mother and father were marched off to their deaths. He knew that the next would be his youngest son, David - because David had always been a frail child. Every evening, Rosenberg came back into the barracks after a day of hard labor and searched for the faces of his family. When he found them they would huddle together, embrace one another and thank God for another day of life. One day Rosenberg came back and didn’t see those familiar faces. He finally discovered his oldest son, Joshua, huddled in a corner, weeping and praying. He said, "Josh, tell me it’s not true." Joshua turned and said, "It is true, Dad. Today David was not strong enough to do his work. So they came for him.""But where is your mother?" asked Mr. Rosenberg. "Oh Dad," he said, "When they came for David, he was afraid and he cried. So Mom said, 'There is nothing to be afraid of, David,' and she took his hand and went with him." That illustrates a mother’s love-- a love so strong that it chooses to give up life so her child can be comforted. This is also a picture of the sacrificial love Jesus has for us. To keep us from fearing death, he went before us. He met death head on-- then returned from the grave so we would have hope in the Resurrection. "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" ...Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." In his book Six Hours One Friday , Max Lucado tells the story of a missionary in Brazil who discovered a tribe of Indians in a remote part of the jungle. They lived near a large river. The tribe was in need of medical attention. A contagious disease was ravaging the population. People were dying daily. A hospital was not too terribly far away, just across the river, but the Indians would not cross it because they believed the river was inhabited by evil spirits. And to enter its water would mean certain death. The missionary explained how he had crossed the river & was unharmed. But they were not impressed. He then took them to the bank & placed his hand in the water. They still wouldn’t go in. He walked into the water up to his waist & splashed water on his face. It didn’t matter. They were still afraid to enter the river. Finally, he dove into the river, swam beneath the surface until he emerged on the other side. He raised a triumphant fist into the air. He had entered the water & escaped. It was then that the Indians broke into a cheer & followed him across. Isn’t that what Jesus did? He entered the river of death & came out on the other side so that we might no longer fear death, but find eternal life in Him. Lee Strobel put it like this… “If we were holding a trial to determine the facts concerning the resurrection, and if we were to call to the witness stand every witness who personally encountered the resurrected Jesus and we cross-examined them for only 15 minutes, and if we went around the clock without a break… we would be listening to first-hand testimony for more than 128 hours…that’s over 5 days worth of testimony. Who could possibly walk away unconvinced?” The stories…they are too similar. The written history is too strong to deny what they saw and what they experienced. Think about it! Recently I came across a true story that happened

during the Holocaust of the Second World War.

Solomon Rosenberg, his wife and their 2 sons were arrested,

together with Rosenburg's mother and father, for the crime of

being Jews. They were placed in a Nazi concentration camp.

It was a labor camp, and the rules were simple."As long as

you can do your work, you are permitted to live. When you

become too weak to do your work, then you will be

exterminated."

Rosenberg watched as his mother and father were

marched off to their deaths. He knew that the next would be

his youngest son, David - because David had always been a

frail child.

Every evening, Rosenberg came back into the

barracks after a day of hard labor and searched for the faces

of his family. When he found them they would huddle

together, embrace one another and thank God for another day

of life.

One day Rosenberg came back and didn’t see those

familiar faces. He finally discovered his oldest son, Joshua,

huddled in a corner, weeping and praying. He said, "Josh, tell

me it’s not true." Joshua turned and said, "It is true, Dad.

Today David was not strong enough to do his work. So they

came for him.""But where is your mother?" asked Mr.

Rosenberg. "Oh Dad," he said, "When they came for David,

he was afraid and he cried. So Mom said, 'There is nothing to

be afraid of, David,' and she took his hand and went with

him."

That illustrates a mother’s love-- a love so strong

that it chooses to give up life so her child can be comforted.

This is also a picture of the sacrificial love Jesus has for us.

To keep us from fearing death, he went before us. He met

death head on-- then returned from the grave so we would

have hope in the Resurrection. "O DEATH, WHERE IS

YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR

STING?" ...Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ."

In his book Six Hours One Friday, Max Lucado

tells the story of a missionary in Brazil who discovered a

tribe of Indians in a remote part of the jungle. They lived

near a large river. The tribe was in need of medical attention.

A contagious disease was ravaging the population. People

were dying daily. A hospital was not too terribly far away,

just across the river, but the Indians would not cross it

because they believed the river was inhabited by evil spirits.

And to enter its water would mean certain death. The

missionary explained how he had crossed the river & was

unharmed. But they were not impressed. He then took them

to the bank & placed his hand in the water. They still

wouldn’t go in. He walked into the water up to his waist &

splashed water on his face. It didn’t matter. They were still

afraid to enter the river.

Finally, he dove into the river, swam beneath the

surface until he emerged on the other side. He raised a

triumphant fist into the air. He had entered the water &

escaped. It was then that the Indians broke into a cheer &

followed him across. Isn’t that what Jesus did? He entered

the river of death & came out on the other side so that we

might no longer fear death, but find eternal life in Him.

Lee Strobel put it like this…

“If we were holding a trial to determine the facts

concerning the resurrection, and if we were to call to the

witness stand every witness who personally encountered the

resurrected Jesus and we cross-examined them for only 15

minutes, and if we went around the clock without a break…

we would be listening to first-hand testimony for more than

128 hours…that’s over 5 days worth of testimony. Who

could possibly walk away unconvinced?”

The stories…they are too similar. The written

history is too strong to deny what they saw and what they

experienced. Think about it!

Dear WMBC,

I want to convey a heartfelt “thank you” for your prayers,

visits to the funeral home, Bro. Eugene’s being there for my fam-

ily and his participation in the funeral service. Also, the precious

ladies who went above and beyond by fixing us a wonderful meal

and serving it to us. May the Lord bless you for your acts of kind-

ness.

Family

Dear Walnut family,

THANK YOU so much from the bottom of our hearts for

your support of our mission trip at the spaghetti luncheon. We are

once again overwhelmed by your generosity as contributions to-

taled over $1700.00, but the blessing that we received is not some-

thing that can be measured only in dollars and cents. We have

seen Jesus in the many ways love has been expressed through you

over and over again. The prayers, offers of help, words of encour-

agement, warm hugs and every act of kindness are all ways that

you have poured out so much love to us. We are deeply grateful to

God for all of you.

We are very excited about what God is going to do in our

lives and in the loves of the people in Ecuador. We look forward

to sharing with you in the coming months how He prepares, pro-

vides, enables, loves and works mightily in so many ways.

Once again, THANK YOU!! We appreciate EVERY-

THING so much more than our words can express. May God

bless you greatly for your goodness to us.

Much love,

Bethany & Molly Oakes and family
