COMMANDERS REPORT
Greetings to everybody, I hope your holiday season went well. Now we need to get down to business, our membership is down from last year. If you haven't paid your dues please do so now, you can do it on line at legion.org.
The National Commander, Charles Schmidt, will be visiting our Post on Wednesday March 15th. We will be having a dinner for him starting between 7:00 and 7:30PM. If you would like to attend, please sign up at the canteen so that we can have a head count on at-tendance, we only have room for 40 people from our post.
Due to a resignation, we will be holding a special elec-tion for 1 person for the Post Activities Committee at the March Meeting on Monday March 13th. Also at the March and April meetings, we will have nomination for all the Post Officers. The election will be on Saturday
after the regular meeting in the post home from 12noon till 3:00pm.

Did you
make it out
for our Su-
per Bowl
party? It was such a success
that we are going to try to do a
Daytona 500 Party, February
26, with happy hour prices from
2:00-6:00 (just bring a side dish
for people to enjoy during the
race). Did you know that you
can have a dual membership at
the American Legion? For only
$10 more a year, if your father
was a military member in good
standing, you can join the Sons
of the American Legion
(SAL)! Do you ride a motorcy-
cle? Have you heard that Nanti-
coke Post 6 now has a Legion
Riders membership (sorry Rich-
ard, your 50CC Moped won't get
you into this group!). Anyway,
those veterans with a plan can
find a home here at Nanticoke
Post 6, are you one of them who
will encourage new member-
ship? The first Saturday in May
(5/6/17), we will be sending a
group to the Veteran's Hospital
in Elsmere to give goodie bags
and serve hot dogs to the veter-
ans and staff there. Do you
think you can put that in your
plans, let me know ASAP if you
can help this very worthwhile
endeavor. Finally, I tell people I
am honored and proud to play
Taps live at our meetings, when
necessary. At this months
membership meeting, it was
truly an honor to play Taps for
four members, including one of
our own past Commanders, Bob
McBride. He went through life
with a plan, to help anyone he
saw that needed it. Let him be
an inspiration to us all, to follow
through with our own plans, or
make some that will truly inspire
those left after us.
Charles Michel
The Super Bowl Party in the Canteen was
a great Success and was well attended by
the members, looking forward to seeing
you at next years party. I want to thank all
who helped make this a success. The
Post Activities Committee members are
looking forward to seeing you on Nascar
Sunday for the Daytona 500 and on St.
Patricts day. Don’t forget that the Easter
Holiday is just around the corner in April.
There will be more details to follow and a
sign up sheet behind the Bar, so please
stop by and look for them in the Canteen.

Membership Report This quote is quite profound, we all need
a plan to stay focused on our objectives,
and work hard until those plans are
met. Our plan for our post, is success and
we need you to help make that hap-
pen. Do you know somebody who hasn't
paid their dues yet this year, and may be
thinking of letting their membership
lapse? Don't sit or stand idly by, and let
that happen, we need all members to
make our goal of 100% membership. So
far this year, we have 440 members paid,
which is 90.6% of our members in good
standing, and only 44 members shy of our
goal of 100%!!
Charles Michel
2nd Vice Commander
I hope everyone is staying
warm and dry. Our last din-
ner turned out pretty good,
and we are planning on hav-
ing more, so keep an eye on
the marquee. If you have
not paid your 2017 dues yet
please do so and if you
have, thank you very much.
We now have our own Post
#6 Legion Riders, their
meetings will be the last
Saturday of the month. If
you think you are eligible
and wish to join, please see
Dennis Baldwin. SAL meet-
ings are the first Wednes-
day of the month. Hope to
see you there. We will be
having election soon, so if
your interested , please
come to our meetings and
get yourself nominated. I
want to thank everyone
who helped me this past
year and let you all know,
the S.A.L. helped contribute
to the success of the
American Legion Post #6
the last couple years.

I hope everyone had a joyous Holiday Season. With winter upon us please stay warm and be careful driving. "As my term of President will be over in just a few months, there are no words to express my gratitude for all the aid I have re-ceived from the Unit officers, committee chairmen, and members.
The search for officers for 2017-2018 will begin in March with elections being
held in May. I know there are many able and talented members who would be an
asset in these offices. If you are interested in filling an office, please contact me.
Remember, we need your assistance in making the Auxiliary a successful Unit,
so please attend our meetings.

American Legion Auxiliary
Membership
We are now accepting membership dues for the new year, many thanks to those
who have already paid. Our membership stands at 63% of our goal of 220 mem-
bers. Let’s get our dues paid so we can give our Dept. President Maureen a
good showing from her own Unit. Please come on out and support your Ladies
Auxiliary by attending our meetings and contribute to our many successes. I
want to thank all who have helped the Auxiliary be a successful organization
and don’t forget that the Legion’s National Commander will be visiting our Post.
God Bless our Veterans.

Post Activities Report
On January 14, 2017, we held the election for the newly formed Post Activities Committee.
I was elected to a 3 year term, Barry Sauers 2 years, Bob McClain, John Weldon and Guy
Daubach 1 year terms respectively. Since the election Guy has resigned his position, a
special election will be held on Monday March 13th at our regular meeting to fill his va-
cancy. Our Canteen Rules have been updated and approved by the membership, so take a
look, the rules will be posted in the Canteen. Just a minor change in the operating hours
of the Canteen, on Thursday evenings we extended the Post hours to reflect that we will
close at 12 midnight instead of 11 PM so as to accommodate our shuffleboard league.
Nascar begins it’s season on Feb. 26 with the running of the Daytona 500 and we are plan-
ning a small party in the Canteen, so stop by and check out the festivities. March 17th is
St. Patrick’s day so don’t forget to wear your green clothing or pin on’s. Remember, our
Bartenders are looking forward to serving you your favorite cocktails, so come on out and
enjoy great friendship with other patrons.
