Crops are classified into three commodity groupings, namely: 1) Vegetables and Rootcrops 2) Fruit Crops and 3) Non-Food and Industrial Crops. The CrPS supports the data needs of planners, policy and decision makers, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector and the general public. It also provides periodic updates on crop related developments. It mainly captures the data on volume of production, area planted/ harvested, and number of bearing trees/hills/vines. HIGHLIGHTS: In the last quarter of 2019, the total production of crops other than palay and corn in the province went up by 7.98 percent compared to its production in 2018 of same quarter. Vegetables & Rootcrops had increased by 14.69 percent attributable to lesser heavy rainfall that permits application of fertilizer and pesticides, and for rootcrops, it favors bigger tuber formation since the soil is not compacted. The increase can be attributable to bigger tubers developed for Cassava, increased area planted for Okra and increased demand for Camote Tops. On the same note, Fruits Crops and Non-Food & Industrial Crops which posted an output gain of about 6.41 percent and 4.10 percent respectively. Also, lesser rainfall brought enough moisture for Banana produce more while iy lessen cases of bud root. In Pineapple, farmers harvested more due to higher price. On NFICS, Coconut-matured and young still in demand, meanwhile, no production of priority crops but LGU thru MAO and the DA continue to implement programs for better production of crops. SPECIAL RELEASE

Date of Release: March 31, 2020 Reference No. 2020 - 011

INTRODUCTION:

The Crops Production Survey (CrPS) is done quarterly in the province which aims to generate basic production statistics for crops other than palay and corn.

HIGHLIGHTS:

I. FRUIT CROPS

Fruit Crops Production gained by 6.41%

Fruit crops production in the province decreased by 3.79 percent in 2019 as compared to 2018 level. The largest contributor to the increase was from Major Fruits particularly Banana due to bigger bunches produced. The increase in the production of all banana varieties were caused mainly by the suitable dry weather that prevailed over the province wherein it made the soil more humid that doe not allow diseases that causes bud rot and eventually death of banana plants. On the same note, Pine apple and Calamansi both have high demand due to higher price. Lesser occurrence of heavy rainfall and strong wind favors more fruit production per crop. Table 2. II. VEGETABLES AND ROOT CROPS:

Vegetables and Root Crops Production went up by 14.69%

All group under vegetables crops recorded an output gain. Vegetables under Major group gained 17.87 percent attributable to more fruits since lesser rainfall occured, it also resulted to bigger tubers developed due to non-compacted soil. Production of vegetables under priority group and other vegetables increased by 10.25 percent and 18.57 percent respectively due to increased area planted to Okra while increased demand for Camote Tops led to the increase in the production of other vegetables.

III. NON-FOOD AND INDUSTRIAL CROPS:

Non-Food and Industrial Crops Production recorded a 4.10% increase.

Non-food and industrial crops production in the province was up by 1.78 percent attributable to more production of Major Crops particularly of Coconut with 5.34 percent increase brought about by interventions on fertilizer from DA, PCA and LGU thru the MAO. Suitable weather and application of fertilizers favors more and bigger nuts production. No production of priority crops under NFICs.
