GIS and remote sensing is often represented as complex, expensive and ‘cutting edge’ technology, the province of a techno-elite in developed countries. This book represents an important (unique) set of papers describing the application of such ‘high technology’ as appropriate technology within a remote/regional and developing country context. Geo-graphic information systems (GIS) are now used to visualise and analyse a wide range of data types. The high diversity of GIS applications in eastern Indonesia and Timor Leste is evident in the scope of papers included in this bilingual (English/Indonesian) publication, ranging from land use to health services.
