DESCRIPTIONSIRRAH is a sensor giving the position of a lifting
system equipped with oneor more infra-red emitters: it is used here
for the control of no collisionbetween the boom and a vessel on
Ship-to-Shore crane (STS) .The coordinates of each infra-red
emitter are evaluated into positive andnegative values compared to
the axis of the detector. In its SC10 version,SIRRAH is optimized
to make an anti-collision system for outdoor STScrane ; sensor is
waterproof and insensitive to the environment light.It works on
positive safety.Described infra-red beacon in the BMU-01 beacon
data sheet, emits infraredwaves with modulated energy from point.
This materialize an infrared linewhich should never be cut by any
obstacle to avoid any collision.Measurement is totally secure. The
system is stand-alone andindependent from the PLC of the crane
.
UTILISATIONSIRRAH is installed on the body of a STS crane
(please see below drawing) ; the beacon is installed on theopposite
extremity of the boom. SIRRAH evaluates permanently the position
and energy of the beacon.A software compares it permanently with
the preset thresholds according to the commissioning.According to
the measured values, SIRRAH SC10 starts 2 relays to cause
decelerations of the crane when it is inclosed position of the
neighbour vessel and stops it.
PRESENTATIONSIRRAH is presented in a solid case including
optics, electronics, the processor of measurement treatment and
the
relays giving the outputs. A special housing ref. BO35 is added
to offer a very good protection against dust andrain. The relays
must be connected directly to the entries of the STS crane
drives.SC10 is associated to an infrared beacon to be installed on
the other extremity of the boom. This one isindependent from the
sensor; it synchronizes automatically with the sensor. Optionally
the serial cable RS422 canbe used to send the value of beacon
measurement towards a supervisor PLC.
AVANTAGESSIRRAH SC10 is autonomous and does require neither a
PLC nor programming.It is absolute safe: it is independent from a
software: its intrinsically secure.It blocks the crane in case of:-
power supply failure- obstruction of the beacon by an obstacle or
dust or storm- direct illumination by the sun.It does not require
routine maintenanceIt is insensitive to ambient light and to the
cranes boom flexion.It is eye- safe sensor.A self-diagnosis system
controls the important components and especially the good working
of the oppositebeacon. In case of detected defect, a safety relay
is activated stopping the crane.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTBeacon is installed at the end of the
boom with a 2 or 3-m distance from the most outside part of theboom
or of the trolley ; horizontally lighting.SIRRAH sensor is
installed on the cranes body, looking almost horizontally with a 6
down inclination.It must not be installed on the exact direction of
sunrise and sunset when oriented to east or west.
