Our student body is comprised of the following: 75% of students are African American, 17% of students are Hispanic, 14% of students are American Indian, and 3% of students are White. We have 34 certified classroom teachers. Statesville Road is proud to have an abundance of veteran teachers: 3 are first year teachers, 4 are in their 3 rd year of teaching and 27 have four or more years of teaching. We also have 6 certified interventionists on our staff. Our teachers have taken advantage of learning and growing opportunities that benefit all students: 3 teachers are TFA Alumni, 100% of teachers are highly qualified, 25 teachers have an advanced degree, and 5 staff members are National Board certified.
We are proud to announce our school’s many achievements. In the 2013-14 school year, SRE increased the percent of students proficient in reading from 18% to 45%. We also increased the percent of students proficient in math from 26% to 50%. Finally, we increased the percent of students proficient in science from 37% to 44% (levels III, IV, and V). Overall, Statesville Road Elementary ‘exceeded expected growth’ for the 2013-14 school year. These accomplishments led our school district, as Statesville Road Elementary posted the highest math growth in the whole CMS district for the 2013-14 school year.
Some of our cultural supports for students, staff, and our community come from our partner organizations. To date, SRE has established partnerships with the following organizations, who continue to benefit our students with their time, talent, and treasure: Wells Fargo, Fifth/ Third Bank, Mélange Health Solutions, and Chick-Fil-A. This year, our staff has begun a new parental and community involvement initiative called ‘Real Men Read.’ Coordinated and dedicated staff efforts bring men into the school once each month to enthusiastically read grade-appropriate books and connect with students and the school community.
