Future Automotive Powertrain Technology is

Driven by Emission Legislation

• The Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) is

the largest source of vehicle emissions

• “Boosting” an Internal Combustion Engine

allows greater power output from smaller

engines

• Conventional “Boosting” systems

compromise fuel economy and / or

driveability

• This has driven Torotrak to develop the

solution known as V-Charge

V-Charge is a Mechanical Variable Drive

Supercharger that Delivers Controllable On-

Demand High Power Boosting

• High air power capacity: up to 17kW

• Rapid ratio change capability: <400 ms

• Low power actuation system: 20W

• Wide CVT variable speed range: 10x ratio

spread (0.28-2.8)

• No external clutch required

• Excellent NVH characteristics: no attenuation

required

• Low integration & system cost

• V-Charge enables aggressive downsizing

and downspeeding of engines for CO2

reduction without performance or fuel

economy compromise
