I hope you have taken the time to be still and listen to the sounds of the season while you have been preparing to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Earlier this week, Pope Francis spoke of letting go of the bitterness and negativity that sometimes prevent people from experiencing the joy God intends all of us to feel in our hearts. The Holy Father said this as part of his homily on December 11, which he focused on Isaiah 35:1—10. A scripture that speaks to the glory of the Lord, who will come with vindication and divine recompense, to save us. I am almost certain many of us know someone who is troubled and feeling low and may rather be left alone to sulk undisturbed. Nevertheless, we are called to “strengthen the hands of the feeble and make firm the knees that are week”. So, on this third Sunday of Advent, I encourage you to think of at least one person who you know might need some cheering up and go bring some joy to their heart. On the journey, Fr. Dennis G. Lewandowski

SIMBANG GABI Advent Evening Mass at Holy Spirit

ALL ARE WELCOME!

Simbang Gabi means “ evening or night Mass” and refers to the Philippine Catholic tradition of celebrating nine Novena Masses as a joyful preparation and anticipation for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

This tradition is celebrated in the many parishes of the Joliet Diocese from December 14 to the 22nd. Everyone is invited to join us as we host the 7th night of this cherished tradition.

Are you itching to do Something Important?

Ever have an itch you can't seem to scratch – an itch that just won't go away? Well, sometimes

God is like that itch. He tries to get your attention by annoying you with a little itchy urge that only

He can scratch.

If God is urging you to do something to help others, consider becoming a volunteer phone counselor for

The Upper Room Crisis Hotline. We provide counseling and referral services to anyone struggling to find a

reason to keep living in all circumstances. While we deliver our services in the Catholic tradition, we

counsel anyone who needs help.

An eight-week training program teaching communication skills, relationship issues, suicide

prevention will be provided. Classes are held Jan. 9th - Feb. 27th from 10:00am to 1:00pm Tuesday and

Thursdays at The University of St. Francis in Joliet, Il.

If this work touches your heart, please call Sr. Mary Frances Seeley at 815-341-9124, or email [email protected]. Check us out at www.Catholichotline.org. Thank You and God Bless!

A Christmas Prayer

Loving Father, Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. (written by Robert Louis Stevenson)
