Events / Festivals
There are several festivals that are celebrated here. Some of the most popular festivals in Silvassa include:
Nariyeli Purnima: This fiesta is celebrated in the month of August to forfeit honor to the marine Gods to keep the fishermen
out of any harm all through the year. The spouses of the fishermen, dressed in their finest of attires, present
naivedyam and pooja to the marine God. People make merry all day long by singing, dancing and having
extensive meals. Around the same time, another fest that is Raksha Bandhan is celebrated here.
Kite Festival: Each year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti in January, the region celebrates the festival of kites. The kites
of a variety of forms, sizes and colors garnish the sky. It is an extravagant vista. Tourists are generally encouraged to take
part in this event and fetch their personal kites. Many contests are held during this occasion. This special carnival is the best
amongst the festivals in Silvassa.
