Types of Optical Fiber Cables

DUCT Cables : Used for laying in HDPE conduit

Direct Burial Cables : These cables are directly laid in the ground without any requirement of conduit. Armoured cables are used for such applications

FTTX – Fiber to the X(H- Home, B – Building, O – Office, C – Curb etc). These cables are low count drop cables used for last mile.

Types of Aerial OFC ADSS – All Dielectric Self Supporting cable. These cables

are used aerially without requirement of any supporting wire for different span lengths.

Figure – 8 Cables – These cables are designed with in-built supporting wire for higher tensile strength

CATV OFC – Unitube construction with 2 strength members on either side.

Types of Optical Fiber

Single Mode Optical Fiber : Used for long distance application. Consists of 9 micron core.

Applicable Wavelengths : 1310nm & 1550 nm

Multi Mode Optical Fiber : Used for shorter distances like LAN, CCTV etc. Contains 50 micron and 62.5 micron core

Applicable Wavelengths : 850nm & 1300 nm
