Fun in the Sun! This year our 98th convention took place in Hilton’s Walt Disney in the beautiful Orlando, Florida from August 10-14. Over 400 brothers were in attendance, including four countries (England, Israel, United States, and Canada). With delegates from over 100 chapters and colonies, our very own Kenny Rose and Jay Vermont blessed all the brothers with their presence and got a lot of work taken care of in that short period of time. The main focus of this year’s convention was leadership development, as brothers participated in seminars led by AEPi staff, alumni, and partner organizations such as AIPAC and Hasbra Fellowships. It is rare to see such a colossal gathering of young Jewish leadership all under one roof. But only two years away from AEPi’s 100th anniversary in New York, this Convention in Disney World was a testament to the fact that dreams do come true. What we got out of convention: Jay, our new House Manager, got our Nationals to pay $625 for a deep cleaning for the house, reimbursement for the paint for the inside of the house, and Nationals even agreed to go halfsies on stain-proof furniture. In the end, Convention was proof that brothers from all over the country can get together, exchange ideas, and have a great time all in the matter of four days!

Chapter Initiation At An All Time High We were able to successfully initiate 28 new brothers into our house between Fall and Spring semester. This is the highest it has been in ten years! The new brothers of the house are already starting to prove their brotherhood dedication by taking on Executive Board, minor board, and other household positions, including: Executive Board, Scribe: Evan Leib (Spring 2011), Jesse Kent (Fall 2011) Minor Board, House Manager: David Adato (Spring 2011), Jay Vermont (Fall 2011) Minor Board, Social Chair: Lev Mizan (Spring 2011), David Adato (Fall 2011) Minor Board, Risk Manager: Joel Deas (Spring & Fall 2011) Minor Board, Joke Chair: Steven Goellnitz (Spring & Fall 2011) Minor Board, Music Chair: Jason Brandel (Fall 2011) Minor Board, Sports Chair: Simon Rosenberg (Spring & Fall 2011) Minor Board, Recycling Chair: Brendan Lewis (Spring 2011)

Sigma Delta’s Jay Vermont, left, making friends with fellow brother, Zach Alexander, from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Did you know…? In the summer of 2009, Alpha Epsilon Pi made fraternity history by becoming the first fraternity to expand beyond the confines of North America. Where was the historic colony founded? Israel. The Supreme Board of Governors sat down for a historic meeting in Israel and later founded the 'Aleph' colony of Alpha Epsilon Pi at the IDC (Interdisciplinary Center) in Herzliya, Israel. Fifteen brothers were initiated as founding fathers of the colony and over 200 brothers and alumni came out to the celebration that followed.

Fast Times With AEPi

Last November, this chapter did something definitely worth mentioning. Our chapter raised $2500 for Juvenille Diabetes Research!! As past master, Aaron Kaufmann, best wrote to Nationals, “The Sigma Delta chapter at San Diego State University hosted their first ever Panhallenic-endorsed philanthropy, "Fast Times with AEPi". Fast Times was a weeklong event that culminated with a go-kart racing tournament benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). This event was in honor of Dash Weiner, a brother of Sigma Delta who has Type 1 diabetes. Eight Panhallenic chapters

participated in the week, which included a benefit concert headlining with mash-up DJs "Super Mash Bros," a hands-on service day volunteering at the

JDRF Walk to Cure, and a movie night at the AEPi house.” How could our chapter accomplish something like this? One man is to thank and he is Adam Edelman. Adam Edelman was the Philanthropy chair at this time and pretty much planned this entire event by himself. His only comment about this event was…“Fast Times was a huge success!”

Our brothers and all of the sororities loved this event not only because of how much fun it was but also be cause it raised money for a great cause. Our chapter only hopes to host this wonderful event next year and hopefully every year to come!

Gooooooooo TEAM! With Simon Rosenberg as our Sports Chair, competitive sports have started up again and only keep growing. In our Spring 2011 semester, our chapter participated in basketball and soccer against other fraternities on our campus. Our only win in basketball was against Phi Delta Theta but with more athletic people entering our house every semester we should be winning more games in no time. Unfortunately, we won no games in soccer spring semester. The sports we are signed up to play this year include flag football, basketball, and soccer. Lev Mizan has already taken up the task of preparing for flag football by starting up weekly practices when people can find time. Blain Katz and Joel Deas are

taking charge in preparation for basketball. Soccer practices have not fully begun but will start soon enough. As Simon says it best, “I hope that AEPi starts to get more involved in sports because not only does it make us look better in Greek society, it also shows the strength of brotherhood and the support system behind it. All Alumni and parents are welcome to come to the games! Basketball games take place in the ARC (Aztec Recreation Center), in which you have to have a membership but AEPi ARC members are able to swipe you in if necessary. However, football games are easier to come to because all games will be played on the fields near the ARC and Aztec Aquaplex. It would be really nice to see familiar faces at our games! Football games begin on October 30th and we need help cheering on our team! If you have any questions regarding our sports and/or sports schedule, please contact Simon Rosenberg at (310) 902-8306.

Once Again, AEPi Ruling IFC Although we might have lost amazing Adam Edelman from IFC (Inter-Fraternity Council) after Spring 2011 semester, we still kept two brothers on the council. As of spring, our very own Jared Belsky was elected to the position of Vice President and Guy Harel (also Aztecs for Israel President) was re-elected to Treasurer. Already, it has shown how hard our brothers on IFC work. Both of them just finished working on a formal Greek Rush of over 500 incoming freshmen, which is a lot harder said than done. With 2 AEPi brothers (Jesse Kent & Gabe Benji) on Junior IFC, let’s only hope that they move up next year so our house has members on IFC every year!
