Pipeline CompressorsAt the heart of any natural gas facility is the compressor. Siemens can offer both RFA and RFBB centrifugal com-pressors. The compressors can be equipped with variable inlet guide vanes designed to help extend the operating range ”on the fly” to improve efficiency, reduce energy consump-tion and lower emissions.

Siemens provides integrated solutions for pipeline operators including mission critical rotating equipment, automation, electrification, digitalization, security, and communication systems. Siemens is truly a “one-stop” solutions provider, enabling the optimization of the total cost of ownership for a compressor station.

Siemens has now standardized an electric motor driven pipeline compression solution that includes all major capital equipment and auxiliaries into one unique design. Standardized power blocks from 5,000 to 30,000 horsepower are available from Siemens which allow for:

The RFA centrifugal compressor is an axial-inlet design with field– proven efficiencies of up to 91 percent, which is industry-leading. The RFA is a simple design with an axial inlet, overhung impeller, and only one dry gas seal creating great value for customers.

The RFBB centrifugal pipeline compressor is a beam-style machine that also achieves world-class efficiencies of up to 90 percent. The RFBB can be used with up to 5 impellers for higher pressure ratio applications. The RFBB shares many components with the RFA and boasts many of the same benefits in a different configuration.

Electrical EquipmentThe standard motor-driven compressor package benefits from the world-class Siemens motor and variable frequency drive products.

For over 100 years, Siemens large motors have earned a reputation for high performance, low maintenance and long service life in some of the world’s most demanding applications. The standard electric motor drive package utilizes both induction and synchronous designs that have been pre-selected and standardized in order to reduce the engineering and delivery cycle time.

The variable frequency drive utilized in the standard package is the popular SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 Drive System, which has over 10,000 installations worldwide. The GH180 is a very robust design which is known for its reliability and value.

The variable frequency drive can be integrated by Siemens into a pre- designed electrical equipment shelter along with the switchgear, MCC’s, UPS systems, controls, VFD cooling, and HVAC. These designs can be fabricated at one of several Siemens-authorized fabricators and would be fully tested before shipping to site. Siemens will take full responsibility for all facets of the electrical equipment shelter, including but not limited to project management, engineering, procure-ment, quality control, logistics, shipping, testing, and startup.

Service and SupportSiemens has the most extensive service network in the world for both rotating equipment and the electrical equipment of any supplier under one roof. Rather than coordinating con-tracts and schedules with multiple suppliers, a customer can effectively manage their full compressor station installation, commissioning, and maintenance with Siemens for all their rotating equipment, electrical, and automation needs.

DigitalizationAs a pioneer in digitalization, Siemens is pushing the boundaries of innovation and exploring new ways in which digital solutions can help make our customers’ operations faster, safer, and more efficient, predictable, and reliable.

It starts with digitally configuring solutions jointly with pipeline custom-ers during the conceptual and design phases of their projects, progresses through manufacturing to virtual testing and commissioning during the project build phase, and finally deliv-ers an intelligent digital twin of the pipeline facility for life cycle decision support and asset optimization. The intelligent digital twin accurately represents the physical plant, the process and the control system, with live operations and maintenance data adding intelligence through the oper-ate phase of the project. Combining the digital twin with the digital ser-vices to pipeline customers, we are able to simulate alternate operating conditions, plan and manage outages, manage spare parts inventory, maxi-mize the performance of critical equipment, and do end-to-end asset optimization.
