Our Theme

During the opening weekend of Shrek the Third, we hosted 9 Lives Cat Rescue for our plan to encourage the Oxford community to give homeless cats a good home. Our theme was focused around Puss’n’boots so that families would be able to connect the idea of adopting their very own puss’n’boots(cat). This would allow many cats to find new homes with caring families rather than the cats never finding homes and being destroyed, showing Malco’s commitment to community involvement . We also hosted Gamestop and allowed them to show the new Shrek the Third game to our customers in our lobby to promote it’s release.

Description

Puss-N-Boots cat adoption at Malco’s Oxford Studio CinemaOXFORD, Miss. — 9 Lives Cat Rescue will be holding a Puss-N-Boots cat adoption at Malco’s Oxford Studio Cinema for the opening of the Paramount Picture’s film “Shrek the Third,” Saturday, May 19, from noon until 6 PM.All young ladies ages 11 and under are invited to dress as their favorite fairy tale princess. Prizes will be given for the best costumes. In addition to the cat adoption and costume contest, Game Stop will be previewing the new “Shrek the Third” video game on the giant lobby screen. This marks the third event that Malco’s Oxford Studio Cinema has partnered with 9 Lives Cat Rescue. “We always enjoy having 9 Lives here at the theatre,” says Nathan McDaniel, General Manager of Malco’s Oxford Studio Cinema. “What Julie does with 9 Lives Cat Rescue is tremendous. We hope that everyone will come out and see what 9 Lives is about and maybe even make a new furry friend.”“The best thing you can do for any animal is to have them spayed or neutered,” says Holeman. “The reason so many animals are being killed at the shelter everyday is because people don't have their pets spayed or neutered and then they don't want to keep the kittens or puppies they have and the cycle just goes on and on. I have met people that started out with 2 cats and ended up with 20 because they weren't fixed. Then of course they don't want to keep them all and they act like it is the cat’s fault. When all they had to do was get the first two cats fixed and there would be no problem.” 9 Lives does provide assistance to lower income families in finding options to have their pets spayed or neutered. 9 Lives Cat Rescue was started at the beginning of 2006 by local Julie Holeman for the sole purpose of trying to reduce the number of cats that end up being killed at the shelter. 9 Lives is a no-kill rescue group. So far this year, 9 Lives has adopted out over 60 cats or kittens and several puppies. Every animal adopted out has been spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Malco Theatres is a family owned theatre chain that was started by M.A. Lightman, Sr. nine decades ago with his first theatre in Sheffield, Alabama. Today, Malco Theatres, based in Memphis, continues its tradition as a regional movie theatre chain with locations in Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. Malco is proud to be a part of the Oxford community and continues to be involved with local charitable organizations.
